After the long hikes down the steep hills in HK with a super duper heavy bag, Laura had sexy red strap marks going on, and a rather dehydrated Laura and Scott made it to the airport. We'd run out of money after lunch the day before so we were trying to be hardcore! At check in Scott was saying how he hoped we didn't get gate 45 as it was a train ride and a walk away...so he was thrilled to bits when we got gate 45...blooming typical! Once again Laura took her calming tablets which was probably a good idea as the wind was soooooo strong from the cyclone Yasi in Cairns so the plane litrerally fell out of the sky and I have no idea how we landed but Laura didn't twitch too much....apart from being annoyed it disrupted her dozing!
So we have told Fuller to get to the airport to pick us up as soon as our flight landed as he told us Perth was the smallest airport ever- well he had forgotten to mention it takes fricking years to get through security. First of all we had quizzes about what your doing over here and how long your staying for...and then where are you staying...and as if that wasn't interrogating enough we then had to fill out a form of what food you had in your bags and if you had any illegal medication! Lordy me! So...45minutes later we finally got to luggage collection and Fuller had got through 2 coffees waiting for us...well at least we were worth the wait huh...well we hope so anyway! With Laura and Scott still suffering from jetlag, we spent the first night in as apposed to going out- what a relief as Laura had been replaced by drugged up drowsie non responsive and not witty Laura! So we just chilled and the boys had a beer (alcohol and food will now be the recurring theme for Perth!) When going to bed, the wind outside was notably strong. Thought it was only at home where the weather was a pain in the arse! The late night meant the early morning start for Fullers rugby training the next day was a struggle. So whlst he trained, we attempted to de-pastify ourselves as the pasty jokes started from the moment we arrived. and they picked on laura more than scott which is mean as scotts the pasty one who goes lobster not laura, still scott thought he camaflaged into the bronze garage..... more like a white vest top! Whilst sunbathing through the strong winds the sand coverd us from head to toe and got in places that sand doesn't belong, we killed time be walking along the beach. Once finished we went to meet Damo before headin to another beach called Cottesloe. Now with two Ozzies together the ribbing started again, mainly on the colour of our untanned bodies but also the sea creatures that we may encounter whilst in Oz. "So you shouldn't see any sharks, but the helicopters are patrolling all the time...oh yeh and the jellyfish sting, don't worry it just feels like stinging nettles. Theres big ones too but they don't sting as much". So they really sold it to us. Then they announced that we were getting thrown in the sea...oh goody! Luckily we didn't see any sharks or jellyfish. The sea is also doubly saltyhere so the taste lasted a long while. Back at Fullers (he drove 40minutes to get everywhere and he doesn't even moan about it-apparently it's the norm!) We freshened up before heading out anywhere, then we went round Fullers friends for a bbq and predrinking which started at 4pm, and most had been drinking all afternoon. I don't know how they do it cas come 8pm we were ready for bed. Being laughed at Laura was then leant suitable going out attire and then sent out to the club…a further 40mins away but this is still normal. Clubs here are quite siminlar but more laid back. By 1.45am we were truly flagging…we blamed it on jet lag…cough cough.
So day 2 in Perth started with a nice long lie in…to kill the jet lag obviously haha. So at 11.45am we rolled out of bed and had bacon and egg sarneys…mmm goooood! Jarrod then picked us up, we had a tour of Perth city centre…could tell Fuller didn't go there too often as he got lost showing us around. Still, we made it to the harbour. On the way back home he took us to the cemetery, yep just the place you think you'd go to see some wallabies. They were soooo cool! So we got happy snapping and then headed back to Fullers for some bbq and posh goon! (vodka and cranberry) Scott had also mastered the ozzie way to open bottles with bottles-new partytrick! After dinner, Fuller decided the alcohol was getting low so he drove 25minutes up the road to a drive through alcohol shop…another really cool thing here. He chose alcohol whilst in the car still hahahahaha! Back for drinks and wait for footy to come on. Whilst sitting down realized Scott hadn't put Laura's suncream on properly as she had random patches of red…the things he does to get one over on Laura…not going to happen! In our quiet night in Scott had 4 Koronas, Laura had one glass of wine and Fuller got through 2 huge bottles of wine and is pissed! Ozzies and drink! So we take advantage of him falling asleep by taking lots of beautiful photos of him to remind him!
Day 3 consisted of a day to Marapana wildlife park in the morning, navigated to by Scottnav as Fullernav once again had no idea how to get there! We were both super excited about the prospect of holding cutie koalas, and so the whole hour drive to get there went quick! Excitement turned to jaws dropping when we found out the day we turned up happened to be the koalas day off! Instead we could pat the koalas…don't quite know jpw patting varied from holding and even Fullers bargaining wouldn't change their minds. However we went in anyway. First stop the snake room and a holding sesh where Fuller hjad to man up and conquer his fear of them and 'be hard'. Despite him saying he was now over his fear, photos suggest otherwise. Next stop koalas for 'patting'. They have such a tough life sleeping hanging off trees. Sooooo cute though! We had our first taste of feedng ozzie life by feeding the kangaroos who Laura was still memorized with…they are cool dudes! We even saw a joey in a mothers pouch…looked blooming uncomfortable for the joey though as he was in upside down with his feet hanging out…still whatever floats his boat I guess! It was at this point that Laura tried to perfectify her ozzie accent of kangaroo which she thought sounded correct but the entire of Australia thought otherwise. The afternoon sesh proved more eventful. Scott was spat on by the llamas, and then he and Fullr had their hands carwashed when feeding the camels. Laura had a goat following her everywhere which then decided to tread on Fullers mums foot! And to top it off we were all bitten o death by mozi's…well apart from Scott who's hairy legs may have saved him and put them off! The wombat reflected our mood (asleep in the box) so it was time to fly home in Fullers turbo car…this time not breaking the speed limit, stopping off at Kings Park for photo opportunities and for Scott to notice a brewery there! Final stop of the day was Hillary's boat harbor for sunset. We got there a little early however so Scotts fav hobby (food) and Fullers fav hobby (drink) had to be sorted. Ice cream and smoothies (of the non alcoholic kind much to Fullers disappointment). In this time Laura thought it would be good to have a sing of some ozzie songs- skippy the bush kangaroo and tie me kangaroo down sport, rather overcooking it! A beautiful sunset later and we went home via the drive through for alcohol. Fuller was keen to get on it….once again! After dinner the boys went for the dip they had been talking about all day long…which when they got in lasted for all of 10mins as the pool was a little on the chilly side and they couldn't be manly! So we all watched the film 'the beach' which Fuller said would get us in the mood for backpacking…I think not!
Yesterday's eventfulness continued on day 4 as we headed back to Marapana to go hold a koala as patting just wasn't good enough! You always get one person who thinks they are superior to others…so we pushed our way into getting first hold or she would have driven us nuts! The koala was surprisingly heavy but fluffy all the same! Scotts koala got to the point of feeling so comfy around him that she poo'ed all over him. His luck with Australian wildlife continued when we went to pat a baby koala and she took a swing for Scott. He wasn't best pleased! We decided to take the trip back home via the scenic route…first of all guided by Fuller who took us off the freeway…and then went straight back on it at the roundabout because he wasn't paying attention! Hahahahaha! So scottnav decided to take over in the quest to find the scenic route home. He sure gave us a scenic tour…through a bloody industrial estate! We saw a nickel refinery, oil refinery, a rubbish tip and goodness knows what else. Arrived in a place called Freemantle where we stopped for lunch. They had a kathmandu there (I should have had shares there the amount we bought for traveling!) We then FINALLY found a scenic road which took us to Cotteslow for a beach stop and icecream via the skanky toilets which had tracing paper loo roll-eewww! We sunbathed on a heffa grass hill which was bloody uncomfortable! So we went for a dip in the sea and took Fuller training whilst we sat and watched, and watched the sunset and also got attacked by millions of sodding dogs! Dominos pizza on the way home where Laura was horrified they didn't do English flavours (dominos texas bbq!) buts weird ones.
Golf wine and chocolate was the highlights of day 5! It wasn't any sort of golf though-tennis ball size ball with some big clubs which the ozzies call, big boy (driver) jigger (wedge) striker (iron) made Laura giggle! Golf here proved eventful as the holes were not straight and they were set on steep hills, which if your ball went down, proved a struggle to get back up! So Laura and Fuller didn't enjoy taking the off piste route to the hole every time! Fullers day got worse when he scuffed a shot and took the golf clubs head off with the ball…must have been from all the power he thought…cough cough! Hours later we finished the 9 holes, unfortunately we didn't break the course record of 29…we got 58! Oooops! Probably a record for getting round in the slowest time though! Next stop was the chocolate factory where Laura made the most of the free samples and ate her bodyweight in chocolate, probably did them out of business! Steiff the travel bear enjoyed sitting amongst the chocolate too! Being full from chocolate Laura wanted a coke as part of her lunch, which became problematic when ordering it as Laura's English accent meant the café girl thought she was saying cake and when I kept saying no I want a coke…she had to get someone else to translate! Really! Lol. After Laura finally got what she wanted we all headed to the vineyards for some wine and cheese tasting, and to taste the desert wines Fuller had been chatting about. Much to his embarrassment when he asked for it he was told they were actually dessert wine, not desert wines so we had a chuckle at his expense! Scott enjoyed tasting the wines so much he couldn't manage anymore haha, so moved onto the cheese. Food again was the highlight of the evening when we all went out for dinner and Scott and Fuller shared a starter of crocodile, ostrich, venison and buffalo!
More on Perth to come sooooon! Photos are now going up on facebook instead as it takes hours to upload them onto here-sorry!!! For those of you who don't have facebook-nows the time to get it :D x
