Walker's Travels in Scandinavia 2017 and others
Day 45 Fri 24 Jun 16, Mandurah to Perth, 85km, 10 to 18 deg. An early morning walk (3.97km) around a very nice estate started the day. As it was a short drive today we took our time over brekky and just chatted with Sue and Terry. Sorry we couldn't stay longer, but we'll be back, that's a threat!! (Thanks for your wonderful hospitality Sue and Terry.). We also wanted to avoid the peak-hour traffic in Perth so we said our farewells about 9:35am and were almost directly onto the highway north. Great road all the way to the Karrinyup Waters Resort, arriving at 10:30am. Nice park with (as the name indicates) plenty of ponds and water birds. Settled in and had lunch before we headed out on the bikes. Great bike paths everywhere and where they are missing the footpaths are wide enough to accommodate bikes. Ended up at Kings Park on the edge of the city. A beautifully maintained park high up on a monster hill, looking out over the Swan River and city. It's much more than a park, it's a great botanical centre, a fine meeting place, coffee & food venue, a place of many memorials and the lungs of the city with 1000s of trees and bushes of all shapes, sizes and types. Round trip 36km. Did some grocery shopping next and picked up some nice Thai takeaway for dinner.
