Day 43 Wed 22 Jun 16, Margaret River to Mandurah, 210 km, cloudy with showers, 12 to 17 deg. Today we head North towards Perth to spend a couple of days with Terry and Sue (saw them at Flinders Rangers) at Mandurah. They were originally from Zimbabwe and are very good friends (considered part of the family actually) with the Beswick family. An easy 50km to Busselton where we headed directly to the famous pier which stretches almost 2km out into the sea. This 19 century jetty is made out of wood so it has done well to survive intact. There's normally a train that runs on it and an underwater observatory at the end but but they were both closed. We were very impressed by the foreshore here; it's already very impressive but there was more work happening when we visited. It was then only 52km up the road to Bunbury. We found a nice parking area for the truck and van (which isn't always easy) next to the beach and brewed up. Just as we finished mornos it started raining so we decided to give the walk to town a miss. Our next stop was Clifton Lake. However, we couldn't find a bitumen road to the actual lake and didn't fancy heading down an unfamiliar sandy track with all the rain around. So we found a nice spot and had some lunch. We pulled into Sue and Terry's about 1:30pm and set up in their driveway. They live in a beautiful neighbourhood within a large canal development, but not directly on the water. It's all only about 5 years old but it already looks well established. After a cuppa and catch-up they took us on a bike tour of the area. We were very impressed with both the cycling/walking paths and the area. Some stunning homes and boats. It was getting a bit nippy by the time we got back about 4:30pm. Dinner was a lovely steak and veggies presented by Sue and Terry. Great food and wonderful company.
