After our mammoth walk yesterday, today was a quiet day. Jedda, in transit through Bangkok, joined us for a visit to the Arun Temple - Temple of Dawn. Amazing temple, with narrow and steep high steps half way up the main spire. Awesome views of Bangkok from there, as well as marvelling at the construction and detail. The temples and Buddhas in the Arun compound seem quite different from those around the Grand Palace. Rounded off Jeddas visit with lunch at the Tha Tien food market - great Tom Yum Koong - managably hot and yummy ! Took a walk through China Town back to the best street food curry vendor ...found them in their alleyway and they did not disappoint. 2 yellow curries and 2 cups of iced tea for 60 BHT - about R20. Plastic plate - you choose your curry out of the huge pots - unfortunately they were nearly sold out of red and green curry already at 6 pm - shows how popular they are. We had a yellow curry ...and the. You perch on little red plastic chairs against the side of the alleyway...and enjoy the food and the friendly locals. Not another tourist in sight ! Great food and great experience. In fact, in the places that we decided to spend our time, we saw very few European tourists. Once Dylan and Ryan arrived, and we went to the main backpacker party scene in Khoa San Road and the neighbouring slightly more chilled Rambuttri Road, we realised why ....here it is "spot the Thai" ...as these places are frequented virtually only by foreigners. The cacophony of music...one bar trying to outplay the next and music styles infiltrating each other ...needless to say...interesting to walk through, but not to remain. Rambuttri Road had some chilled places with good music and the crowd slightly closer to our age.
