So we are in Cambodia!! We need to up date photos, but we cant find a fast enough connection yet, so, let me tell you about, Cambodia thus far.
We got off an ass numbing boat journey from Chau doc, not at Pneom pehn like we expected, but 60 k short?? We were put onto a minibus with the worlds worst aircon, driven by a looney, down dirt tracks in to a major traffic jam were we sat for an hour.
When we arrive at a hotel that we had no intention of staying at, unfortuantly everyone else on the bus was, they were on a package deal, we were dumped to the sharks (tuk-tuk drivers), who thought we had only just got off the boat (ok we had, but we have been travelling long enough to no when you're being ripped off). We instantly went in to what we now called "India mode", this is everyones out to rob you , rip you off or mug and murder you (good job im not a drama queen). The first tuk-tuk driver that told us we were 7killometers from were we wanted to go and it would cost five dollars, swiftlly got dispatched with "no, you're lyeing, we are here on the map and were not paying more than two dollars!!", with this the number of drivers thinned considerably, thankfully one driver found this funny, ageed on two dollars and took us to the flea pit that "THE BOOK" recommended!!
The only reason we stayed is it was late, dark and we were knacked, the room smelled and if one person walked in to the room, they had to close the door before the second person could come in, very small, and the ceilling fan dripped on to the bed?? Celling fan?? not air con?? So after a few beers to drown the day, i woke in a wet bed!! the celling fan not me, i checked several times before huffing and puffing loudly enough to wake hev to show her my disgust at the leaking fan! (thought id done a jimmy!!)
As the new day woke us, we packed faster than a polish factory worker, and scarpped in search for the lake, two hundred yards from the flea pitt, we once again found paradise! We dumpped our bags and set off to explore the river front and markets of Pneom pehn, the rivverfront was a building site thanks to the re-devellopment funded by Japan (thanks Japan!!). The market was so hot i had a river of sweat running the lenght of my body, whilst standing still! Gross. Worse for the lady that made me try on a football shirt i didn't want and didn't want to try on, yeah she was sorry!
After the light harted day of market food and cheap beer we went bright and early to S21, what a grimm place, it gives you an understanding of Cambodian history, but .......... i actually dont know what to say....its just wrong...to find a photo of a group of prisoners from the 13th july 1978 (i was born 12th july 1978) made it hard for me. Sorry im getting quite dark here, it was an ironic place, S21 was a school then was used to torture and murder the educated, tell me thats not irony. So now we were in cheery moods we set off for the killing fileds, with a temple of skulls and mass graves we felt truly drained, so off to the pub!
After the heart break of S21 and the killing fields, we set off for a volentery orphanage, to try to help in any way we could, (except for sitting on a street conrer flogging t-shirts and postcards) so i taught a kid "flip-flops" and how to pronounce shh as in shhoes and shhirts, i also taught kids how to loose at volley ball, yeah they might be orphans but they wern't looking for charity! (or maybe they were?? did i miss there message??) So we spent the next couple of days mooching round town checking out the local sites and sounds, untill we were ready for a week on a beach, so off to shnooks ville!!
(thats not how its spelt but it will do) so tune in again, same bat time, same bat channel!
love you all, peace out!
