After Fraser I had another day at Rainbow Beach whilst the majority were getting on the bus the following lunchtime. It meant we had a fun morning in the pool together, although being my height piggy in the middle is not an easy game to play. I waved the guys off on their bus and then what I had planned to be a productive day ended up being quite a lazy one, although I think it was needed after the last few days at Fraser Island.
I had also planned a quiet night, but in true travelling fashion this didn't happen, as I made some new friends and we got involved in the drinking games in the bar and won many free jugs, against a very scary female AFL team I might add…
I spent the next morning by the pool again, uploading the magnitude of photos that I took on Fraser (free wifi is like gold here!) and got on my bus heading up to Bundaberg. Four hours later I was in Bundy and Jo and Elliot were waiting for me at the coach station, was so good to see them again! We took a drive looking for wild kangaroos (Jo was SO happy!) and then headed back to Elliot's mum's house. Here I had the luxury of my own room and 3 pillows. Serious luxury!
Elliot's mum was throwing a welcome home bbq for Elliot, so I got to meet lots of his family and eat some amazing food whilst having a good catch up with Jo. It was only a week since I had last seen her but a lot had happened since then!
The following day I had a bit of an epic lie in, and Elliot made me pancakes for breakfast. Seriously could get used to this! Jo, Elliot and I then headed to Baraga and went for a swim in the sea which was great fun, despite Jo and I struggling to keep our bikinis on which became quite amusing. After our dip we treated ourselves to a lunch, I even had a roast for the first time since I can even remember, you don't realise how much you miss these things from home until you don't have them.
After lunch and a sneaky ice cream that melted faster than you can eat it, we headed up to Elliot heads, where the sea was in a cove and within three steps you were already shoulder deep in the water, was bizzare. The water was really clear and it was so hot a swim was definitely what was needed at that time.
We headed back and had a chilled out night with a few drinks and some tv, again it seemed so alien watching tv! I managed to get a skype with Bob, Shell and Elsie which was great, Elsie can even say my name now and points to the ipod when Shell asks where I am. She's probably going to have a shock when she realises I'm real and not on tv when I return I'm sure.
The next day we visited a shopping mall to get a few things we needed, and I sent a parcel to the UK and had a small cry at how much it was. I just hope it gets there!! Jo, Elliot and I then went to the Bundaberg rum distillery for a tour. Bundaberg rum is super famous here, there were even people outside queuing for a rum that was released in 6 days time. Mental.
The tour was really good, we had a very over eager tour guide but it made it more the experience, and after going round everywhere from the molasses to where it's eventually bottled we ended up in the bar where we could have two drinks of our choice. We thought it was just going to be a taster but it was actually two double drinks and with a mixer if we chose. Awesome way to kick off the afternoon if I do say so. Obviously once drunk you end up in the shop, where we failed to resist buying things, so I am now the proud owner of a Bundaberg singlet. (I'm down with the lingo)
Back home and we chilled out watching ice age 2 (so grown up) and Elliot's mum cooked us a lovely dinner before Jo and Elliot took me to the coach station. This was an emotional goodbye as I won't see Jo until she's back in the UK for her sister's wedding next year. So I got on my bus a blubbing loser and spent the next 12 hours trying to sleep before heading to Airlie Beach the next morning.
When we stopped at 1770 who got on the bus but Jen and Carrie from my Fraser family! It really is a small world when you're travelling I'm learning. I'm now in Airlie beach before I go out sailing on the Whitsundays for a few days which I'm really excited about. Airlie Beach has been really laid back so far, and we bumped into Drew and Matt from the Fraser family on the first night and so went out for a few drinks. Most of the time has been spent by the pool or lagoon in the sunshine. I know you all hate me… my next update will be post sailing so I hope you might hate me even more.
Love you all xx
