We had a nice lie in at Siem Reap before boarding a local bus to Phnom Penh at lunchtime. This was an uncomfortable 7 hours journey on a loud bus, they beep at absolutely everybody.
Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia, still in slow recovery from when the Khmer Rouge communist party tore the city apart in 1975.
We arrived about 7pm to our hotel. It appeared to be a very lively city and a bit more modern to Siem Reap. We had a pretty chilled out night here after last nights drunkedness.
The next morning was pretty hard going. In 1975 Pol Pot; the leader of the Khmer Rouge communist party killed millions of innocent educated middle class Cambodians in a violant mass murder. Today we visited the Tuoi Sleng prison where thousands of people were tortured and the killing fields of Choeng Ek where thousands of people were buried in communal graves.
The cheer ourselves up after this experience we went for a nice lunch, then took in the culture of the town by visiting the local market and the temple of Phnom Wat.
We then got ourselves ready for some evening cocktails, Strawberry Mojitos to start the night...
