Hanoi-030706- Am getting very excited about meeting up with Judith.Only a few days until we will be supping cocktails and yapping.A month travelling a seule is good and for me long enough.I have so enjoyed some solitude aswell as meeting some very interesting and fun people but you cannot beat old mates for comfortableness and feeling at ease. It is quite wearing being constantly EN GUARD for any slight mishaps- however, must say that not once have I ever felt unsafe or in danger from the people here- the roads maybe but not the folk. Lunched at the GREEN TANGERINE--set in a superb structure from the French period. An extremely busy and complicated menu-French /Fusion= Foul to my palette. Mixing goats cheese with passion juice and pork fillet!!or try this one- Beef carpaccio with camembert & pistachios & raspberry jus or rice icecream with green coloured rice crispies!!For the first time I could not find one thing on menu to eat - but having established myself in the gorgeous surroundings it was going to prove difficult to extricate myself. So I chose the salmon lasagne- with fresh spinach- It could not have been more beautifully presented and more foul tasting- quenelles ( my pet hate-Lesley you know my thoughts on passe French cuisine!) Layers of round sheets of lasagne stacked as high as double decker bus topped with dill plants and a foundation of miniature spinach stalks. Had to have another glass of wine to take the taste of dill and dam quenuelles(dry mousse of salmon teaspoon shaped) out of my mouth .The dessert arrived in a shade of green never ever seen in the countryside-but exquisitely executed- on a coulis of raspberries and fried dried cranberries. A garden gnome may have enjoyed this but pas moi! No great shakes -the first bad recommendation from Lonely Planet - and that is only because it is not my cuppa tea! Had an excursion to huge modern movie theatre to see latest Harrison Ford and Paul Bettany film- very gripping and so nice to just sit and not site see!!A couple of necessary purchases afterwards- skirt /perfume and goodies .
