Helen's Travels
OK, so after we left Nashville we headed straight to Memphis. It was a pretty interesting couple of days. First we went to Graceland which is definately worth a visit. The house itself is small considering how famous Elvis was but apart from that everything is pretty outrageous. Especially the fact that they put on a shuttle bus to take you the approximately 10 minute walk from the visitor centre to the house - typical america. You get to see a lot of the outfits and cars and stuff, plus his plane! The next day we went to the National Civil Rights Museum which is in the Lorraine Motel so you get to see the actual spot where Martin Luther King was assasinated. You can also go across the street to the boarding house where the shooter was. The museum was really interesting but there was a lot to take in. We were also ushered into the auditorium because the storm sirens went off. There were some pretty bad tornados all across Tennesse and I think about 30 people died. We just had some bad thunder and lightning and a really cold day on the saturday - we did manage a boat ride down the mississippi on a paddle wheeler though. We arrived last night in La Fayette in Louisiana and the hostel is nice so we are staying here a couple more nights. We have heard mixed opinions about New Orleans and whether it is worth going but I think we will probably head down anyway, if it is pretty bad then we can always jump on a bus the next day and head for texas. I dont think there is anything else worth mentioning. I am starting to get a wee bit homesick so please keep me up to date with all your news, I cant wait to hear from you all! hx
