Helen's Travels
OK, after Austin we went to San Antonio and had a good couple of days at Fiesta - big parade and we all bought head-dresses. Managed to meet up with Mark who I was in Australia with so it was really good to catch up and hear all his news. After that it was the overnight bus to El Paso. Not much to do there but we crossed the border into Juarez, Mexico for a couple of hours, not that much different from El Paso but much cheaper. Next stop was Albuquerque, again not much to do but it was a nice little town and the hostel was good except for the woman in our dorm who snored like a bear all night - You gotta love dorm rooms! Headed up to Santa Fe which was beautiful and we decided to hire a car for the day. It was a pretty good idea as we got to visit a few of the local native american sites and climb 140ft of ladders to visit a cave where they used to live 500 years ago. Last weekend we arrived in Flagstaff which again was a really nice hostel except for the trains that pass through the middle of the town and honk their horns at all hours of the night. We spent a day at the grand canyon which was absolutely amazing - it almost looked like a picture. We did a 3 mile round hike down into the canyon which was really good except for the fact that I was terrifed of falling in for the whole 3 miles. The next day we took a trip to a town called Sedona where we did another hike, this time up the way with some amazing views, and we also went swimming in a rock pool. I have finally put some pictures onto cd but this computer doesnt have a disk drive so I cant upload. Arrived in Vegas last night. The hostel is excellent but in a bit of a dodgy location. Believe it or not we just stayed in the hostel bar last night and didnt visit the strip but we had a really good night. Tonight we are gonna hit the strip and do all the sights. On saturday there is a limo tour in a big stretch hummer so we think that will be a bit of a party. Anyway, still having an excellent time, met some people who worked in Whistler over winter and they loved it so we are really looking forward to getting to Canada. hx
