Leg 5 race 8 day 7
Was woken at 4am by Matt shouting to the on watch to move the main sheet! They had come off the wind and done a 360 turn. When I woke I was all disoriented wasn't sure if I was dreaming or where I was! It was horrible. Thought we had crashed !! Think it was playing on my mind as skipper Bob had told me a story the night before about a family being killed at sea by another boat. Not what I need to hear! Sophie was awake and bless her came to the rescue and reassured me. Went back to sleep til 5.30. Told Carl when he woke up and he said I should have woken him, really thought I was going mad!
On watch at 6 doing a Constance 8 knots in 20 knots of wind. Saw the first view of land Taiwan and got some phone reception but too early to text home. Came off shift late at 11 due to tacking and team meeting. Spoke about mother duties and the race and safety we are still current 3rd place
Had lunch tried to get into my bunk but still smells of desil so got into Sophie's : sophie was in Sarah's (hot bunking)
Texted the children and heard from Jodie and Sam before lost reception was so happy missing them xx
On Sunday it's Mothers day so sophie had the idea to get every crew member holding a letter to spell out happy Mother's Day and take a photo we did this and Kevin put it together looked really good.
Back on shift at 6pm was really dark noticed this as we have been sailing further north. When I went on deck saw lots of lights out at sea and thought it was land but it was around 30 fishing boats.
We are now in 7th place took one of our tacks too early! Hopefully will make it up. Shift went quickly busy looking out for fishing vessels in the dark along with other boats.
Came off at 10pm made 2 loaves of bread. One problem with the standby watch is difficult to relax. The seats are wet so you have to sit on a black sack. Although it is good to watch a film the seats are not comfortable.
Went to bed at 2am :had to sleep in the top coffin bunk ! I wondered why they called them that now I know !!! It's like being in a coffin ! Carl was in bottom bunk. He had to tie my bunk up once I was in then uptie me in the morning to let me out: this stopped me falling out !
Miles 208; speed 6.8-12: wind 14-28
