We spent a couple of nights in hervey bay. On the first day we booked on a tour to Fraser Island. We had been contemplating driving across ourselves in the Outlander but as we arrived we realised we had made the right decision. Fraser is a sand island so all the roads are deep sand tracks, the 4 WD coach had 27 gears and huge tyres! First stop was Lake Mckenzie which is a huge freshwater lake, formed solely by rainwater. We had a swim here and then made our way to Central Station where the first loggers on the island made camp. On the way back from here we saw our first snake of the trip, the coach just managed to avoid running it over! From there we travelled along 75 mile beach, one confused traveller then asked the question "how long is this beach?" haha. A little dingo could be seen looking for food, they can be quite vicious so we were not allowed to get out of the coach. As we were cruising up the beach a plane landed in front of us and this proved to be a great sales technique as we were first to put our hands up for a 15 minute flight over Fraser. Pete took the role of co pilot but luckily for the rest of us on board he wasn't allowed to fly! The flight provided a fantastic view of Fraser and we saw some more of the many beautiful lakes. On our return to the beach we saw lots of stingrays in the sea before finally making a very smooth landing back on the beach. A quick photo with the pilot (tiger woods lookalike) and we were back in the coach heading to the ship wreck on the beach. The last stop was Eli Creek where we floated down the creek until it finally reached the sea. This was a fantastic day out on a beautiful island.
