Went out for a late dinner last night. Caught a tuk tuk to the 'best' seafood restaurant in Bangkok. It was a shocker. Got back into the tuk tuk and asked the driver to find 'best' place for westerners. Ended up at a great Sushi place and everyone had a ball. Tummies full so Hekas were happy.
Spent 4 nights in Bangkok in total. Spent our days walking, tuk tukking, catching the boat up the river to the big Mall (10 baht, 40c each). The hotel was 4 stars. There were many large Chinese tour groups. Most other tourists were put in the towers located a long way away from the main tower. Internet expensive, 24 hours 900 baht, $36nzd. Everying plus plus lah. Smelly rooms, pool closed when should be open, gym didn't open when supposed to, communication difficult. Bangkok has a huge amount of smog which isn't in the tourist brochures!! Didn't find the locals friendly at all. So, all of these things added up to an ok few days. None of us really wanted to venture anywhere further into Thailand. We went on a tuk tuk tour but the driver just wanted to take us to all 'his places' which involved a massive jewellery making business, a very expensive tailor, then a fairly cheap tailor because the first one was too expensive lol. Eventually, we didn't get out of the tuk tuk and so the driver sulked. This was quite a common thing. If you didn't pay them a small fortune like $8-$10 dollars for what should be a $1-2 trip, the drivers wouldn't talk to us but we eventually worked out we could save the drama and pay $2-4 for taxi drivers to take us quite a considerable distance. We ended up becoming better barterers! Had lots of nice food of course. Our hotel was above the Bo Bae market which was a massive lay out. Everyone set up stalls very early in the morning and once the heat set in by 2pm, everyone was gone. Lots and lots of cheap clothes. Just couldn't be bothered sorting through stuff. Had a look at some beautiful temples. Really enjoyed the sites from our hotel. Great views, beautiful xmas lights that all lit up around the foyers, pool side etc. Eventually found a friendly travel agent who helped us to book a flight to Hat Yai. Just needed to have a night in a cheap back packers and then move on. This accommodation at was perfect for one night. Ended up getting up and deciding to take our ever increasing pile of suitcases out to the airport and then go for a tiki tour around. We received a message to say our flight was delayed for a few hours so now departing at 10pm. We arrived at the airport to find out that we could leave on a flight in 90 mins so that saved the prob of arriving in Hat Yai at midnight. I have never seen anyone so excited to leave Bangkok :(
