We spent Saturday night at Dennis and Keri's local pub where there was almost a carnival atmosphere because Norwich City had been promoted to the Premier League. There was live music which eventually got a bit too loud for us so we moved outside where we could hear it better and pretty much had our own private party. I drove some of Dennis and Keri's friends home and its the first time I've driven in the dark here so it was a bit nerve wracking down some of the little alleys that pass for roads. Dennis calls them hubcap cleaner lanes because the grass swishes by on both sides cleaning your wheels!
Oh and I forgot; when I was shopping while the boys were at the soccer, I saw a sandwich board outside a quaint little pub that said "Husband Creche - leave your husband safely here while you're shopping". I thought that was pretty good advertising.
Yesterday we spent the day in Norwich with our friendly local guide Dennis (Tony's cousin) and his wife Keri. Dennis has a wonderful knowledge of the area and especially the City of Norwich and was busy explaining various interesting items of history etc. He was telling us that there used to be 52 churches and 356 pubs in Norwich - a church for every week of the year and a pub for every day. Lots of the pubs and churches have closed now though. We spent some time in Norwich Cathedral and were mightily surprised that there was no charge to get in! We went to Elm Hill which is a tiny street in Norwich where Tony's dad was born and it's now a little tourist attraction in it's own right because of the look of it and the craft shops etc. We had a lovely time wandering around the old cobbled streets and looking at the buildings.
We decided to have a quiet night looking at each other's photos etc and we had a Skype hookup with the Europe girls. That was a good laugh and it was lovely to talk with them all. They seem to be having a great time and we'll have a lot of stories to swap when we all get home.
Keri has gone off to work today (poor Keri...ha ha) and we might do some cooking or some family history research today. It's nice not to be running around like mad things for a day or so.
