156 Patients!
We accompanied the doctor team to a village outside town to do a one-day cataract-screening outreach clinic. The doctors were set up in six different stations, and Alyssa and I spent most of our time watching the doctors who sat in the cataract-detecting room (a dim room with a fan where they used flashlights and retinoscopes to look for cataracts.) Out of the 156 patients seen that day, 21 were brought back in the Venu bus to the base hospital to undergo cataract surgery the following day, then to be transported back to their village the day after that. All services were free of cost to these patients thanks to grants and donations Venu gets from various sources each year.
