The six hour drive from Halls Gap in Victoria to Adelaide in the state of South Australia passed without much worth commenting on. The greatest excitement was driving across state boundaries and gaining half an hour of life due to the time difference. We were also issued with many warnings to leave behind all fresh fruit and veg in Victoria (special bins provided) something to do with fruit flies although I am sure they could fly in themselves. A word of advice, if you are ever passing through Dimboola on the Western Highway and are tempted to stop off at Pete's Place for a cuppa and a loo break and even though he has the only roadside cafe for hundreds of kilometres, don't bother! That's all I will say on the matter.
On arrival in Adelaide we said goodbye to our trusty hire car and checked in with some trepidation to our apartohotel. I had made the mistake some days previously of looking it up on trip advisor. Most comments were reasonable but one stood out for saying "I would rather sleep on the streets of Adelaide then stay here again". Oh dear we were not expecting great things this time. No worries however as we were given a room on the top floor (17th) which had just been refurbished, had all the comforts of home and joy of joys our own washing machine. Much needed after nearly three weeks on the road. The only downside no wifi in the room any only accessible in the lobby for a fee. This blog will probably not be published for a few days yet.
