Well it was another early start on the Oz bus to take us from Hervey Bay to Kroombit Cattle Station. I was looking forward to it as I ended up going with the same group that I went to Fraser Island with. We left at about 07:00 and arrived at about 14:00ish I think. I didn't really know what to expect from a cattle station, but when I got there I was quite surprised (especially when I saw my room!) All I can say about my room is that it was like a wooden shack and had a cocroach in it, but I had the top bunk so was hoping no bugs would get me up there.
Before checking in we had lunch, which was very tasty and then some people went horse riding to round up the Goats for our activities later on and the rest just chilled out. Some of the guys went swimming in the pool, and I went for a walk with the people from my room. We soon turned back though, as the further we got from the station the scarier it got!
When the others got back from horse riding it was time to do some of our activiites. The first one was learning how to use a Lasoo. Andy the cowboy showed us once and made it look so easy, so everyone was eager to give it a go. However, it wasn't as easy as it looked. I tried so many times and still couldn't do it! A few times I even nearly strangled myself! I kept trying but in the end I gave up and went on to do some pigeon shooting.
When I done this a few months ago the gun was a lot smaller for me and there was padding on the side, so it wouldn't hurt my face. This gun was massive and there was no padding. The first time I shot the gun it scared the hell out of me and now I know what it feels like to be punched in the cheek! I was knocked back quite far and needless to say that I didn't hit the clay! I had another four shots and everytime I had to pull the trigger all I was thinking about was how much it was going to hurt me again. I didn't hit anything and was left with a nice swollen cheek, but it was so much fun shooting a gun!!
The next activity was to muster the Goats. We had to get in groups of three and come up with a name and it had to have the word Goat in it. I came up with the name The Three Amigoats! The object of this activity was you had a grabber (who had to grab the goat by its' horns and pull it over to your team), a tipper (so to tip the goat on its' side) and then a brander (they had to run and grab the brander thing and place it on the back side of the goat). I was with Jo and Paul and Jo said she wanted to be the grabber, Paul was the tipper, so I was the brander. When we got into the ring though, Jo said that she didn't want to grab the goat, so I had to do it. It was quite scary going towards the goat and everyone is watching you too, so it's quite embarrassing. Everytime I went near the goat it ran away and I was worried that I was going to hurt it when I pulled it, so I never thought I was going to get it. I couldn't stop laughing either, which probably didn't help with my concentration. I finally grabbed it, Paul tipped it and then Jo branded it. Jo picked the brander up at the wrong end though, so we lost a few points, but after everyone else had had their go and the scores were added up, we ended up coming third, so not too bad.
We was then told that we all had to go into the ring as we were going to have a warm down session. We had to all hold hands in a circle and then Andy came in the middle with a Cattle Prod and a bottle. We all started looking a bit uneasy, when he started to explain what he was about to do and suggested we take any metal objects out of our pockets! He was going to shock us with the cattle prod!! I couldn't believe it, are people crazy on cattle stations?! lol. I was so scared and was standing next to Paul and Chris, so their hands would have been a bit sore afterwards. Andy span the bottle and whoever it landed on they would have to hold the cattle prod with two fingers and then everyone in the circle would get a shock. I was praying it wouldn't land on me and it didn't, thankfully. It didn't hurt as much as I thought it would and it was quite funny watching everyone's faces, so I decided to stay in the circle. How wrong was I to do that though. Guess who the bottle landed on the next time?!! Yes, it was me! I couldn't believe it and was so so scared. Andy came over and I kept trying to put my fingers on the end of it, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it! Andy said that if I didn't do it then I would have to leave the circle, but one of the guys said they would take my place for me, so I could stay in. I was so relieved that I didn't have to do it, but was called a chicken! lol. I left the circle after that go though, as knowing my luck the bottle would land on me again. The circle was getting smaller and smaller where people didn't want to stay in any longer until there were just about four people in it. Andy then asked if anyone wanted to shocked on the arm?! Of course some of the blokes wanted to have this done and Paul was one of them! Boys are insane! They said it didn't hurt that much, but you could tell by their faces that it did. We were told that we had a crazy group as some people on the Oz experience didn't even want to attempt doing the circle. It was so much fun though, looking back on it!
It was then time to go back for dinner and drinks. The food was beef though, which I expected it to be, so I gave mine to Paul and as he doesn't like veggies I had them instead. After everyone had had a few drinks it was time to have a go on the mechanical bull. The girl who was doing it made it look so easy, but when it came to my go I couldn't even get on the damn thing! I managed to get on somehow and was ready to go. I lasted for about a second! I gave it another go, but the same thing happened. I decided that the bull was not my thing.
When it came to going to bed I was so paranoid about the bugs, but I ended up having the best nights sleep ever.
It was an early start again the next morning, with breakfast at 06:00 to be ready to leave on the bus at 07:00. We had a very long day ahead of us to get to Airlie Beach, but we were going to have a few stops along the way. So it was time to leave, with a swollen cheek and no longer a fear of big bugs, and getting schocked by a cattle prod! It really was so much fun at Kroombit and I loved every minute of it.
