Hayley & Holly On Tour 2006
Hello everyone fromm Wanaka!
We have Lake Tekapo and have been to Queenstown and are now settled in Wanaka.
We arrived in Queenstown on the 23rd and settled into our posh campsite (had shower curtains with dlophins on and bath mats in the shower bloke- quite fancy!) The drive into Queenstown was again rather spectacular, lots of wild flowing rivers and huge mountains. We also went past the spot of the famous bungy jump in the area, there were people waiting to hurl themselves over the edge- crazy fools, no need to say that we kept on driving!
Queenstown was really nice, booking offices everywhere for all adventure sports and information offices- these make up at least 80% of the shops! During our second day we went tramping and did a tramp up to the summit of Ben Lomand which is 900m. We thought it would be rather a gentle tramp for our first one, boy were we wrong. At some stages, especially the last bit up to the summit was pretty much vertical. We took lots of photos of us at the top to prove how high it was! The views were again pretty amazing and we took these in with a jam sandwich!
We spent out last day watching the Anzac Day parade, which is there version of Remberance day and then left Queenstown and completed the short journey to Wanaka. Alas it has been raining since yesterday afternoon so plans of more hikes have been put on hold. We will just have to find a bar somewhere!
Anyway will update again soon.
Missing you all
(a soggy) Holly and Hayley
