Hi
Went to see the sunset over the Twelve Apostles on Thursday night. It was bloody freezing but worth it because after the sun went down we saw lots of Little Penguins come to shore to rest for the night.
Set off early on Friday in the pouring rain. Drove from Port Campbell to Warrnambool (the end of the Great Ocean Road) stopping off at London Bridge and the Bays of Islands on the way, more spectacular landforms of the sandstone and limestone coastline.
From Warrnambool we set off to the Grampians, driving along miles of deserted straight roads without seeing anyone for ages. The weather improved slightly on the way. Arrived at the Grampians YHA about 4pm - its a lovely hostle set in the national park. We check in then walked down into the centre of Halls Gap to the visitors centre and to grab an ice cream. Made chilli for tea then chilled out in the hostel all evening enjoying the comfy sofas!
Saturday up early again to make the most of our day in the Grampians. We set off along the Mt Victory Road stopping at several lookouts on the way including the Boroka and Reed lookout to catch some photos. We stopped at Mackenzie Falls and walked to the base and back. The falls as weren't spectacular as they could have been due to the summer flow, but still pretty impressive all the same. We also saw our first wild Kookaburra.
We stopped at Zumstein for our lunch where we suppose to see lots of Western Grey Kangaroos but instead we were attacked by crows!
After lunch we drove to Brimpaen to the Grampians Horse Riding Centre. A really nice ranch run by a local family with really nice throughbreed type horses. We had a fantastic two hour ride through their land with sights of the Grampians. They were really relaxed and let us ride off ahead and do what you wanted basically. Hayley was on a little but nippy horse called Pete and Lydia was on his friend Seb, while Rose was on Trigger who like to stop (suddenly) to eat grass! We managed to see wallabies and kangaroos from horseback and Lydia was even racing them at one point! The weather was perfect too.
On the way back we stopped at the Balconies where we did a short walk to the lookout and took some precarious photos. Chilled in the hostle again in the evening ready to have the morning in the Grampians and then drive to Adelaide in the afternoon.
Lots of Love
Hayley and Rose x
PS. the picture isn't of the Grampians will upload one tomorrow!
