Hi everyone,
Arrived in Darwin on Monday morning and Neil (a friend of the boys from Perth), who we are staying with picked us up from the airport.
Monday was spent with an orientation around Darwin and a welcome drink by the harbour. All very civilised! The rest of the week has just involved getting stuff ready for Thailand, buying rucksacks, getting anti malarials, ordering money etc. We have also registered with some job agencies and being trying to suss out the job situation, hopefully making it easier to get a job once we are back from Thailand.
Thursday night we went to check out Mindill Beach Market which was amazing. We could have brought the whole place between us there was just so much nice stuff, very much with the aboriginal and asian influences. The market had a vibrant atmosphere too, with thousands of food stalls and numerous bands and solo artists playing, it was great. We watched the sunset over Mindill Beach as well, with all the other people!
Today we did a heritage walk around Darwin, taking in some of the architecture! To be honest there isn't much as most of the city got wiped out by Cyclone Tracy on Christmas day in 1974. We haven't been that impressed with Darwin, it has got the same laid back attitude that Broome and Darwin has but it lacks charactor and a beach you can swim in!
We are almost ready to hit Thailand, everything is sorted its just a case of packing the bag. It is all very exciting.
Not sure if we will be able to blog from Thailand, so if you want to see what we will be doing check out the website - http://www.intrepidtravel.com/trips/TRM
Speak soon.
