Saturday 19th June got on the Oz bus to Noosa and stopped at the Glass House Mountains. We were pretty disgusted with the toilet there which was pretty much just a hole in the ground! We went for a walk around then had a bbq cooked by the oz bus drivers, was v yummy! We were dropped off in Noosa in the afternoon and got a free bus to our hostel in Noosaville which was in the middle of nowhere. One of the guys who worked at the hostel who was on the bus stunk of alcohol and was sooo drunk on his day off, he was really funny. We had tea, got ready and taxied it to Koala Bar. The drunk guy from the bus was there and we made some friends with some aussie boys who turned out to be wierdos. Managed to lose them on the way to a club called Reef but couldn't get into the club because of flip flops again!!! (Hayleys bought some proper shoes now though) Probably a good thing though as we had to be up early the next day to go to Australia Zoo. On the way to the taxi home we met some overdressed aussie boys who were sooo cute and we had a chat with them for a while.
Sunday we got a free bus to the zoo. We had such a fab day there. We held a koala, fed the elephants and chilled with a kangaroo. They had loads of animal shows, the croc one was the best (but would have been better if it was Steve Irwin)! That night we just chilled with our roomies. In the middle of the night one of the girls turned over and fell off the top bunk!! Soooo dangerous as most of them dont have sides!
Monday we went to the beach in the morning but forgot to take suntan cream ooopps! Rachel burnt. We left to go to Rainbow beach at 3.30pm. We settled into our room and were gonna have an early night but ended up being the last ones in the bar and had to be kicked out. We met our French roomies from Brisbane (one Rach thought was called Ronald but was actually called Robert, he thought this was hillarious) They were also meanies though and nicknamed Rachel Red Rachel. They challenged us to a game of pool with the losers buying a round of drinks. They thought they had it in the bag but we won hahahahaha! They were extremely gutted.
Tuesdays plan was to go to the beach however when we woke up it was raining! We had a wander around a few shops then had our Fraser Island talk to prepare us for the trip by a aussie/london guy called Luke who was crazy! After the talk he gave us a lift up to San Carlo sand dune and left us with some bodyboards and boomerangs. We had sooo much fun going down the steep sandunes and ruined this peaceful spot by our screaming and laughing. Rachel fell head first off her board coming down the hill, she wasnt impressed (Hayley was, and nearly weed herself laughing). Packed for Fraser and went to bed.
Wednesday was Fraser Day whoooooo. We met ourside the hostel at 8am and were given our Jeeps and rations. We introduced ourselves to our Fraser family, Petra and Adele from Czech Republic, Kerry and Laura from London and Lorena from Bath. We named the Jeep Henry but he was a pile of s*** and the back doors didnt close. (He got us through the trip though) We went to the 4x4 centre where we were greeted by Mr Happy (NOT!) We were lectured at and he scared us to death, saying any damage whatsoever would result in a $1000 fine. Horrible man. We were given our itimery for the trip, ignored the man and off we went! After a 6 min ferry we arrived on Fraser Island. Petra (our mum) drove up the beach to Lake Birrabean but started to rain. We had lunch there then made our way to the campsite at central station. Was a v bumpy ride and there was lots of squealing (from Rachel). We set up camp and went for a walk but got caught in a rainstorm. Petra made an amazing tea in the dark and we ate it in the rain, true campers! Then got on the goon.
Thursday woke up to sunshine whoop whoop. Had brekkie, packed up the Jeep and Hayley drove us to Lake Wabby. We walked to the Lake over the sandunes which was beautiful and did a bit of sunbathing. We decided to take a different route back which should have taken half an hour but we ended up getting lost and it took 2 hours to get back. No time for lunch so went straight to Dundaborough camp site. Put the tents up and ate tea in the light whooo. We went for a walk to the beach in the dark, keeping a lookout for dingoes. When we got back to the campsite both Jeeps sat round and played drinking games.
Friday we had pancakes for brekkie then Rachel drove up to Indian Head. We walked to the top and had the most amazing views from up there. We spotted whales and dolphins in the beautiful clear blue sea. We drive to the Maheno shipwreck and then to Eli Creek. Hayley was brave enough and had a little swim in the creek then we drove back to the ferry. Arrived on mainland and took the Jeep back to the place. Thank god there was no damage. We had a lovely shower back at the hostel, so nice to be clean. We met our Fraser family for tea and drinks. We loved our Fraser family, got on really well.
Saturday we had a beach day after a nice long lie-in in a bed! We went back to San Carlo sandune to watch sunset which was incredible. It was also a lunar eclipse that night which we watched then went to bed.
Sunday (yesterday) we left Rainbow Beach and arrived in Hervey Bay. We didn't have a clue where we were going to stay. After talking to a few local hostel guys we decided on Palace hostel, good choice! Its eally cool and reminds us of a uni house. It has seperate units with 6 rooms in and each unit has its own kitchen and living room area. We met the cleaner Dave who was sooo funny and told us his life story. We went to the beach and were joined by Matt (from Essex) who works at the hostel. We soaked up the sun and had a swim in the sea. We arranged to meet everyone in the living room area for drinks then headed out to a bar and watched the England vs Germany game. There were loads of Germans in there going crazy coz they won. We were true England fans and had the flag painted on our faces. After a dissapointing game we went back to the unit and made toast with our friends.
Today we've been to the beach with Matt again and tonight we are gonna have a movie night with the rest of the unit and off to 1770 tomorrow. Really love this hostel, feels like a little family!
