Whitsunday Islands: 2 day 2 night sailing tour.
Our boat was the Clipper, the party boat which has 50 people on board. its one of the biggest and best boats that backpackers go on. We had to all put our stuff a bag with no zips and take our flip flops off as we entered the boat. Everyone was very excited and first job was to put the huge amounts of alcohol in the cooler fridge thing. There was no glass allowed so we bought a 700ml bottle of vodkay for $30 and poured it into a water bottle. We bought a box of goon which is 4 litres of wine - $13. No red wine was allowed on the boat. We also bought 6 cans of low carb beer. We drank the lot in two nights! We werent that drunk though although as usual mike cant remember going to bed both nights. That day we all got to know each other and we set sail at 2.30. There was a group of Essex girls (not your typical essex girls) That we'd stayed with in the town of 1770 and they were also on our Fraser Island trip. They were a right laugh, really bubbley, down to earth, silly and very fun. We met a couple from Birmingham that were personal trainers Called Richard and Louise who were 22yrs. We talked to them alot of the trip. The clipper has a spa on the top deck but me and Mike didnt go in it for some reason! It was nice on top deck everyone chatting and drinking together. We had a gorgeous dinner which was Fish, salad, bread and veg very healthy and gorgeous. The chef was a girl from Lancaster and her friend on board who was a volunteer to help wash dishes and got the trip in return for free was from the Lake District. The chef had a University of Lanashire Hoody on which me and mike found amusing sat next to her in the middle of Oz! After dinner there was drinking games and alot of drinking it was all good. We ended up in bed at 9.30pm We are such lightweights now! They turn all the lights off at 12.00 though on the deck which ushers everyone to bed. Our boats aircon was not working and it was ridiculously hot! We did have a fan in the room but I didnt get a wink of sleep tossing and turning etc. The rooms were tiny. Luckily me and mike got a double top bunk and beneath us was a girl called Ella from Canada. Lovely girl very pretty blonde and legs upto her armpits - b**** (only joking Ella!) In the morning all the crew (which by the way were so witty and enthusiastic and great motivational people very funny) woke us up clanging pots and pans in all our rooms next to our ears at 7.00am to get us up! I unfortunately was in the hallway bit just coming out of the toilet and I got a slap round the bum and had the pots and pans in my face that nearly deafened me! I always like to be first up so I could use the toilet facilities first! We went for breakfast which was musili, fruit bowl and toast with jam, peanut butter etc. Delicious and healthy again very impressed. We got off the boat to WHITEHAVEN BEACH. The most beautiful beach on the planet! All the stars go to a place called Haven Beach Resort quite close. I cant imagine anything more picture perfect. Crystal clear well not even clear actually its like someone had injected the most gorgeous turquoise / blue / white colours into the sea, amazing. The sand was 98.7 Silica and never got hot enough to burn your feet. I remember ordering high volumes of Silica at work but stupidley never asked what it was used for so i would find out! I should have known! The sand never burns your feet and its bright white! We all had stinger suits as it was the start of the stinger season but me and Mike never put ours on. Half the people did half the people didnt. We risked it! We loved swimming in that ocean it was truly a rememerable experience which I will take with me for the rest of my days on earth. I got a little trigger happy with the camer and took videos of me and Mike trying to do our best belly flops. We were in quite shallow water though as did not dare adventure out incase of sharks / jelly fish etc! We did see some little sharks swimming past us! We hopped back on the boat and were taken to Tongue Bay after lunch. We put our stinger suits on and went snorkling. Wow! Big fish, little fish, brigh coloured Nemo Fish, Huge weired fish half the size of me length and thickness! Zillions of them swimming around you it was great. Next me and Mike had put ourselves down to do a Scuba Dive. Lots of people had dropped out as they couldnt do the breathing or they were just to scared! Everything we had to do (a task to see if we would be okay( I had to be shown about 5 times before I understood what to do.... typical. I got it in the end and we went 10 meters deep into the Ocean. so so so so scary. Not even the fact that great white might come and eat me, but the breathing and remembering to "adjust" yourself every 20 seconds by blowing down your nose. Also the weight on your back its just very scary. The whole time I was more concentrated on staying right next to the dive instructor that I didnt really notice anything else. Furthermore I didnt notice that my goggles were completely steamed up and that is why I couldnt see anything. I must be the only person on the planet to go scuba diving and not see one single fish! I realised at the end it was my goggles but I didnt dare clear them as this is the thing I couldnt do in the practice. Not knowing how deep you are and knowing your lungs could bust if you dont breath properly was well scary. I kind of got used to it just at the end when we had to go. So hopefully we will do it again in the great barrier reef and I will be okay! I saw much much much more fish snorkling for free! b*****! That night for tea we had spag bog! MMMMM gorge! Then again we all started drinking on the top deck, sharing stories, plaing drinking games etc. That night also everyone was oohing and ahing and screaming as there was a dolphin, a shark, and huge weired fish basically performing for us near the boat. It was so good to watch them in the wild. The dolphin as doing all tricks. The shark was just following it. Everyone was arguing "was it a shark?, no its not a shark!, I know sharks its definately a shark etc!" It was great. with goon in one hand and the other holding onto the rails of the boat we all watched the show all night. The best experience I could wish for on the boat. The dolphin was just great. There was jumping fish, and the shark would jump and eat the fish....again very memorable.
