We had our breakfast on the bus which was a biscuit and another fruit pot and finally arrived in Calama at 11am and had to wait at the station for our next bus to San Pedro at 3. Me and Joe slept pretty well on the bus (i did sleep better)
We got our next bus tickets and sat outside to wait for the bus. Vicky, Abbey, Craig and Joe played cards while i sat reading the magazines Abbeys Mum had brought for her (Vicky and Abbey met Abbey`s parents in Santiago for 5 days)
Our bus eventually turned up around 3.45, as we all qued up to put our luggage on we were told the bus was broken (even though it had its engine running! So off went the bus and we were left sitting there for another hour until finally another bus turned up (I actually think it was the same bus!) We got on and saw some amazing views on the way, the bus even stopped for everyone to gt off and take pics. Vicky asked how much further is was and the driver said 10 mins (this had alarm bells ringing as we could not see anything that looked like a town in the distance!!)
So we pulled up at a very small dusty bus station (uh oh!) this place was nothing like we were expecting, we began looking for the hostel (i think there are only 2 taxis here!) We eventually stopped and let the boys go ahead to find it and they came back to get us. The hostel is ok, the room was FULL of flies but luckily Abbey had some bug spray (poor Vicky has had an awful time with bed bugs!!) So we sprayed our whole room and beds and headed out to try find some civilisation! We came across it! Found a lovely little restaurant to have dinner and a few drinks then headed back to the hostel stopping to get some more drinks on the way back and sat around the fire at the hostel drinking until we were told at 1am to go to bed or drink on the street so we headed to bed!
This place is turning out to be ok, better than our initial thoughts!
We also began to feel a little altitude (shortness of breath and headaches) as we are currently 2000 metres above sea level!
