Today we got a bus to Mr Hugo's to pick up bikes to cycle around the wineries!
Craig and 4 Scottish lads we had met in Buenos Aires joined us on the tour.
First stop was a winery and museum where we couldn't do a tour as it was in Spanish so at 10am we sampled our first glass of wine!
Next stop was a chocolate factory. We paid 15 pesos (£2.50) and saw how they make olive oil (it takes 15 kilos of olive oil to make 1 litre of olive oil!) then we got to sample the olive oil with balsamic vinegar. Next we sampled different olives and pastes on bread! Then it was time to sample the liquors - we were allowed 1 shot each. I chose Rose petal vodka and Joe chose chocolate banana! Yum! We decided against the 94% absinthe as it was still before midday! We then got to try sweet spreads and jams like caramel, chocolate etc. Then we got some chocolate!
Satisfied we jumped back on the bikes and stopped at a small family run winery (they used to own what is now the Trapiche winery) where we shared a bottle of red wine while wondering around the vineyards.
Next we rode to another chocolate place where we had another shot of liquor this time I had chocolate mint. They even had tobacco liquor shots on the menu!
Our next stop was the Trapiche winery; it was a beautiful building and huge! We wanted to do the tour of the winery but didn't have enough time so instead we got a bottle of red wine and champagne (not allowed to be called champagne if it's not French but it was!) was 95 pesos (£2.20 each) we were all taken by a lady through the winery and onto a big decked terrace overlooking a lake with the sun shining to sample our wines!
Dragging ourselves away we rode to the beer garden where we all had a pint of blonde beer. We then had to ride quite a way across road works (that were very bumpy to the next lot of wineries. We stopped at one where we had another bottle of red and champagne. We were going to head to a restaurant where we had a discount card for lunch but realising it was now 4pm and probably not classed as lunch we opted for a restaurant next door.
We headed in and through a wine factory and up onto a big terrace overlooking miles of vineyards! We all ordered a steak and another bottle of red!
Stuffed we headed back to Mr Hugo's to drop the bikes back (they had to be back by 6!) it was a long ride back and I was a little unsteady by now but we made it back safely for 6 on the dot where Mr Hugo greeted us with more jugs of red wine! We dragged ourselves away around 7pm and got a taxi back where we took a nap as the hangover was already beginning to kick in!
The rest of our time in Mendoza was spent wondering the streets, visiting shopping malls! and chilling!
