Hayley & Mark's Travels
Hi All,
It was lovely spaeking to you yesterday Mum and Dad, and once again Dad Happy Father's Day!!
We are now in Jaisalmer in the Western Part of India. Its amazing and still after almost 4 months travelling its unlike anything we have seen elsewhere.
We are staying in the old Fort, which overlooks the city- where all the buildings are made from sandstone and camels wondering the streets. Its like something out of Lawrence of Arabia. We are staying in an amazing guesthouse called 'Desert Boys'.
Tomorrow we are going on a half day Camel Safari in the Thar Desert- to see the Sam Sand Dunes. So that will be lots of fun- but very, very hot.
Today we have been looking at heritage hotels with pools as we have decided to 'live it up' for the last week of our travels in India. Still a bargain for what it is- but were able to live in luxury spending the days relaxing by the amazing pool topping up our tans, and eating and drinking as much as we like.
Mark bought a really nice brown leather satchel at a bargain price of 400 Rps which works out to 4.00 pounds, with a bit of haggling.
As we said in our previous message we were staying in Udaipur. It was lovely and really romantic- would definetly recommend this place to anyone. We were overlooking Lake Pakola, which was awesome. Every morning we would look out of our window and see loads of people swimming and bathing down by the ghats. Seeing the dhobi washers, washing the clothes down in the lake was also a normal occurance happening down by the water.
We changed hotels half way through our stay in Udaipur as we got a better deal in another hotel which was alot nicer and cleaner.
Whilst in Udaipur we managed to explore the City Palace and do a bit more shopping, haha. I don't know how we are going to carry it all home, luckily dhl have made it easier.
Mark managed to do a spot of sunbathing at a near by pool. And we finally managed to do some washing, we hadn't washed our clothes in over 3 months so you can imagine we looked disgusting- now we look lovely and clean- haha.
We managed to get ourselves booked on to a bus which would take us to Jodpur, whist on the bus Mark remembered that he had forgotten some clothes back at the hotel, we had to get off the bus, and make our way back to the hotel- luckily his clothes were still there. The next day we got on to another bus and departed for Jodpur 6 1/2 hours away. When in Jodpur we then got on to another bus to Jaisalmer another 6 1/2 hours- so we were travelling on uncomfortable, hot buses, having to put up with indians staring and pointing at us for 13 hours.
Its funny that whilst we have been travelling we have come accustomed to being stared at- obvioulsy. We thought China was bad- but we were wrong. Indians are awful. We are constantly made to feel very self conscious and very aware of being different to everyone around us. Which is disappointing as we weren't expecting it. We have now resorted in either ignoring them or being rude to them- which is a shame- but its happening every time we step outside.
Anyway on a brighter note we are off to do some more shopping now and explore the rest of the Fort.
Hope you are all well and that the weather back in Engalnd is more managable, but hopefully it will be lovely and hot when we get back otherwise we will have to climatise to the cold weather of England- very depressing.
Can't believe we have only 10 more days travelling left, it has gone so quick. We have done so many things in 4 months its gone like a flash. But we are looking forward to seeing everyone lots and telling you all about our adventure in Asia.
Love to you all
