We are leaving Moscow for the first leg of our Trans-Siberian adventure. We arrive in Irkutsk late evening on 20 April so will probably be off the radar for a few days. Don't worry we have provisions (photo). See you in Irkutsk xx

A wet and cold day in Moscow, good job I bought a hat that kept me warm and dry! We did a lot of miles walking again to take in the city. Interestingly there was a huge police presence and a significant area around the Red Square was cordoned off. Turns out Putin was doing his annual call-in, a four hour live televised Q and A session! We did still get to go in the amazing Gum department store off the square. We then again head to Hard Rock for cocktails.

Fantastic day exploring the Red Square and Kremlin. Took a walk from our hotel to the Red Square and admired St Basils cathedral before walking around the Kremlin along the Moscow river. We were delighted when we had a small flurry of snow. We went inside the Kremlin and saw an array of treasurers including the wedding dress and coronation dress of Catherine the great as well as the throne of Ivan the terrible. Relaxed morning at the hotel before a walk to the station to catch our speedy Sapsan train to Moscow. These trains go over 200km per hour and in 4 hours we arrived in Moscow. On the train we passed partly frozen lakes and forests that still had some snow. We walked the hour to our hotel along huge ring roads with at least six lanes.
