Good nights sleep followed by another lovely Japanese breakfast. We had time for a walk before heading to the station for our journey to Takayama. Our Ryokan owner asked where we were going and I said Takayama, he asked by bus? I replied no by train. We got the shinkansen to Toyama where we were to change to a local train. Unfortunately there was no mention of our connecting train on the board and on enquiry we found it had been cancelled due to Tropical Storm Noul heading our way. We were told there was one bus in two hours, it was the only bus today and we could not buy a ticket to guarantee a place, we were also filmed by local television! It turned out a fun journey whereby we met lots of other travellers, shared stories and had a laugh. The bus took us to Kamikochi through the north Japan alps where we viewed snow capped mountains. Thankfully another bus took us to Takayama where we have another lovely ryokan.
