Wonderful day in Kyoto. The city has mountains to the south, west and east. We left the city centre and headed east. We went to the Ginkaku-ji Temple which had beautiful gardens and afforded lovely views of the city (photo). We then joined the philosopher's walk along the canal. It was a beautiful walk and we came across a lovely lady sat painting with water colours. We sat and enjoyed our lunch here as we watched the fish struggling to swim upstream. The walk ended at Nanzen-ji temple. We then walked to the impressive Chion-in Temple, the steps here were used in the film The last Samurai and also it is here there is a large bell which is rung 108 times on New Years Eve representing the 108 sins man is prone to commit. From here we moved to Eastern Gion which was full of traditional streets, temples and a pagoda. We also walked past two beautiful Geisha. This area leads to Kiyomizu Temple which again was stunning and afforded great views of the city. Finally found the beauty of this city! We have come back for a rest before visiting the Gion district at night.
