After an amazing nights sleep we ventured out in Kyoto. First stop was Nijo Castle. Whilst the building is not as impressive as others on the outside the inside is amazing. We walked along on the nightingale floors, so called because the wooden floorboards are designed to alert intruders. The rooms were displayed with tatami mats and we saw the rooms where the Shogun would meet the feudal lords. This castle is also where the last Tokugawa shogun resigned to emperor Meiji. We then walked through the Imperial Park to the Gion district along the Kama river. The Gion district is a famous Geisha area at night. During the day we observed many people wearing traditional kimonos' and also some couples that had just got married having photos taken. The area has preserved the traditional wooden storehouses. Kyoto is massive and we have walked miles. For the first time on this trip we are totally exhausted!
