Namaste!
So after my first ever overnight train ride we arrived in Delhi. I was super anxious about the overnight train but was actually pleasantly suprised. We had clean sheets, pillows and air conditioning (better than some of our hotels so far!). The train pulled into Delhi around 7 am so after freshening up and food we met with our group leader to plan our time here. We were all worried about the recent blasts in old Delhi so decided to stick to places which were less crowded and more open.
On Saturday we visited the Huyaman tombs. The tombs are set in a massive garden and it was so peaceful there that it didn't seem like we were in the midst of the capital at all. Then in the afternoon we took a tuk tuk to the Ghandi museum. The museum was a little gem and well worth a wander around. My favourite part was seeing all the quotes from the man himself - really inspirational.
On Sunday, after a lovely lie in, we headed out to Connaught Place. Connaught Place is a huge circle full of shops and cafes. We were really excited because of all the Western chain stores! There was McDonalds, KFC, Baskin Robbins...to name a few! Very very exciting when you've been eating boiled rice for two weeks. And you'll be glad to know I've had two ice creams since i've been here just to make up for it!
Sunday was also a time for change as some people from our orignal gang left to go home and we gained some new people for the next leg of the trip. There's now 12 of us in the group and our group leader is really enthusiastic. Today we've spent our free time visiting a Sikh temple and I've learnt that they are one of the most welcoming religions. Every single day the temple provides free food for 10 - 20 thousand people! It was amazing to seeing them preparing all the chapatis and mixing the veg in these huuuge pots.
Tonight we're going on another overnight train and this one is going to be a killer - 19 hours! But we will be rewarded by Jaisalmer and all the wonders of Rajasthan.
