KL was a bit of a culture shock again after 2 weeks in Borneo. I really love the city though, and I quickly readjusted to the faster pace. I stayed in a fantastic hostel called Reggae Guesthouse in Chinatown. I love that part of the city, it's so full of life and it overflows with strange foods and smells. You can buy pretty much anything you want at any time of the day. I met lots of cool people at the hostel and it was very sociable with a good communal kitchen and seating area.
I spent 2 days exploring the city more, visiting the Petronas Towers, the National Museum, the old cricket ground and Central Market. In the evenings I went out with people from the hostel for dinner and a few drinks. On my last night there was a Chinese festival being celebrated and we were invited by the staff to join them at the party in one of the bars. There was a huge pile of origami and paper money in the middle of the street which we all added to when we arrived (to make us rich apparantly) and they then set fire to it! Very impressive bonfire in the middle of the road. There was then a huge amount of free food - delicious roasted pork, chicken and duck with noodles. Fresh fruit and birghtly coloured rice muffins followed for dessert. A very interesting night.
The following day I caught the plane to Bangkok - off to visit Emma who I met in Borneo. She is a volunteer for a women's weaving centre for refugees in the west of Thailand.
