We arrived in Kaikaroua after a great drive along the coast, the coastal road winds all round the mountain. We went to try and find out about the whale watching but as it was late most places had shut so we decided to park up for the night we parked right next to the beach. The weather has been quite bad for a few days now rain and high winds and that night it felt like the van was going to tip over the wind howling all night and the rain was lashing down on the campervan.
Next morning we passed a place that did whale flights you go up in a two man plane which flys over the sea and you spot whales and dolphins from it, Joe really fancied soing this so we went to check out the baoat and see which to book. The boat had been cancelled due to weather conditions so Joe went back to do the flight ( i did not fancy the plane it was tiny!) He really enjoyed the flight just him and the pilot and he saw whales swimming in the sea aswell which is cool. We then headed to see some seals as we had been told we could see them on the coast we did not expect to see so many they were verywhere they are sooo cute! One was posing as if enjoying the attention got some amazing photos seeing them in their natural environment was so good. Two ladies had told us about a stream walk they had done the day before and they saw baby seal so we went to seeif we could spot them. We arrived at a huge waterful to see loads of baby seals just playing in the water we were the only ones there then one other couple came and said it was very rare to see them. We felt so lucky we watched them for a while and got some videos which we will hopefully try to put on if we can! Everywhere in Kaikoura was seafood with it being right ono the coast and there are loads of vans set up selling fresh cooked lobster so we bought one to eat later that night!
We are now in nelson just arrived this morning and hopefully will try to get the ferry over to the north island tomorrow, think it takes about three hours so we should be there by the afternoon.
We hope we have as much fun over there as we have had here we have loved every single minute.
Lots of love to everyone back home!
