Hi everyone hope all is well at home hi to all.
We left Luang Prabang on a bus (yes another bus) and drove through the mountains for maybe 6 - 7 hours it was the most amazing drive I think we have been on yet, we passed no one for miles but had to stop in the middle of the mountains when the mini bus started smoking and we stopped in a little village all the kids come running to have a look at us all its unreal how they live they have nothing not even doors on their houses but they are all really pleased to see you and are fascinated by you.
We arrived in Vang Vieng eventually and checked into a guesthouse with the rest of the people who had been on the bus then straight out to get food and some drinks.
Vang Vieng is a small town surrounded by mountains & rivers. The main attractions are caves, Hmong villages, and the natural mountain scenery. However it has become most famous for the tubing and everyone old and young head to the Mekong river to take part in the crazy tubing.
We had a few beers laughed at some of the people who had been tubing all day coming back though it's quite scary when you see some of them limping and all bandaged up from injuries they have picked up during the day.
Next morning we went to meet everyone we had met over the past couple of days as we all decided to go tubing together we went to collect our tubes which is bascically just a huge inner tyre that floats, you then get a tuk tuk down to the first bar where there is a huge rope swing really high up you hold on and let go into the Mekong river the current is really fast so when you come up you get dragged down the river a yound lad throws you a rubber ring or coke bottle on a string most of the people went straight ahead to have a go me and Joe who are rubbish at swimming and a little scared decided to get a bucket of gin and tonic and laugh at everyone else for a bit. Some of our group had some really bad falls the handle of the rope swing was slippy so they let go and went head first into the river that must have hurt the whole of the bar was like OOOOOO OOOWWWW she came up and everyone cheered. This put us of even more honestly it's really great fun though could be dangerous. Anyway we moved onto the next bar by getting into our tubes and floating down you get pulled in by someone at the side you have to put yopur hand up if you want to go to the bar it's crazy. Good job I had not taken my digital camera or anything else I definately would have lost it my glasses went in my shorts and the bag with the money in though we got this back luckily!
The second bar is the craziest free whiskey (a bottle) on arrival then mud wrestling and volleyball I got dragged into the volleyball pitch and drowned with mud as you can imagine i loved this ! It was good fun at the time but have still got cuts on my knees from falling over you shower with a hose pipe then move onto (well float) to the next bar. We had to get the tubes back by 6pm so me and Joe left everyone at the last bar and made our way down the river the view are amazing floating down the currentis so fast and you have to look out for the last point where they pull you in or I think you head to a waterfull! I managed to grab hold of someone but Joe let go and a boat had to go after him and get him! We had a great day glad to come away with just a few cuts there was people with broken legs! Next day we chilled out the bars are really funny all with beds in not chairs and they have friends and family guy on repeat all day it's mad!
We booked a bus to take us the next day down to the capital Vientinne it was only three hours so the shortest journey yet!
We have got some photos of the tubing not very good ones cause the camera we had was not too good so we will upload them asap.
