We booked the bus to take us to Savanaket where we would stay for two nights before flying out back to Bangkok where we head down to Ko Samui.
We were pleasently surprised by the bus very posh (well the seats went all the back and we had leg rests aswell) compared to what we had been used to, so this made the journey extremely comfatable. We arrived in Savanaket at 4.30am the only time the buses are on time is when you dont want them to be but never mind.
I had the name of a guesthouse so found a tuk tuk and asked them to take us there we arrived and it was all locked up but the driver managed to speak to them for us and they were full so we wandered round trying to find somewhere. There was nothing anywhere and everywhere was locked we stumbled upon a girl getting her outdoor stall open so sat down with her and she made us breakfast, she offered us all sorts of meat to put into the noodle soup she was making including something that looked like brains! We ate breakfast then walked around until eventually we stumbled upon a place which we eventually checked in. Savanaket is extremely remote people are very poor down the road where the guesthouse was a real eyeopener!
It rained all day we walked around but decided to head back to the guesthouse as the weather was so bad this is good for the people as it makes there crops grow and is good for the land so they all love the rain. That night we went to a local bar where the locals hang out and made some friends even though they spoke no english it's funny how normal it's becoming having conversations with people when they dont speak the same language!
Next day was beautiful sunshine hurrah so we weant off to hire some bikes and went for a cycle there is nothing to see at all but we saw a sign that said lake so we decided to head there, on the way we met some guys on motorbikes and they asked us to join them at the lake so we arrived at a beautiful lake with lots of wooden huts on stilts they had ordered a banquet of grilled fish, snails, crickets, chicken knees, tendons etc some of the food was amazing some not so good, we spent the afternoon chatting with the locals they were all teachers and they told us loads of stuff about Laos . They teach and they only earn 50 US Dollars A MONTH I was shocked we arranged to meet them later on at a bar where one of them would be singing.
On the way home we passed a huge group of men, women and children all dancing and singing they called us back so we went back and they asked us to stay gave us loads of drinks and even went to buy us Laos T-shirts from the local market. I played with the kids as you can see from the photo and taught themthe hokey-cokey and ring and ring a roses, we ended up staying with them till late had a great laugh the people were such fun I gave away my scarf, raincoat, mirror, comb and joe gave his T-shirt and raincoat, they were so please with this. We left and decided not to go to the club to meet the guys from earlier as we were catching the flight the next morning.
Next morning we checked out and got a tuk tuk to the airport! It is the smallest airport I have ever seen the planes are so small they only hold 50 people, there was only 11 on our flight, I was not too keen on the flight the wheels came right down next to the window I was sitting at and touched down, but the flight was only 1 hr 10 mins so that was not too bad.We arrived in Bangkok again just for one night before we catch the bus and boat down to Ko Samui we we are about to catch in about twenty minutes so got to rush. Hope all is well at home will update more when we arrive in Ko Samui, looking forward to some time on the beach.
Take care love to all. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
