Gavan - 'the glider'. Always makes it look easy. Doesn't need to catch a breath often and his legs turn effortlessly. He will slip out the back of the pack for a while and then glide on past during the toughest period of the day. It's unusual to see a single bead of sweat to emit from Gavan's body. Takes on board little water in comparison to the other riders. Rides like he doesn't have a care in the world and swares by pilchards as an energy source.
Wade - 'high cadence king'. Legs are pumping in the high gear range most of the day. Wade bobs along in front for a large part of a days riding and his style propels him up hills. Doesn't stop eating to maintain energy levels. Maintains a consistent exercise regime, performing his exercises on the bike to encourage circulation. Wade is the route planner and the early morning motivator.
Shane - 'the grinder'. Shane draws his power from his core strength and channels it through his hips and legs. Shane is just there all day long constantly swapping in and out of positions to allow others to benefit from pack riding while he jumps on the front. Shane eats the hills up and it's not uncommon for him to charge forward on the sniff of an incline. Shane has had to nurse his bike through the last 3 months of riding and it's modifications make it the most Africanized conveyance out of all 5 bicycles.
Justin - 'the enigma'. Justin has a hell of a diesel. He is new to the cycling fraternity and he introduces himself to the sport by embarking in a 12,000 km endurance ride across Africa. The mind boggles. Justin takes on in excess of 5 liters of water a day to compensate for fluid lost. He eats a truckload to replace nutrients and replenish after calorie loss. Justin can be seen at the front, in the middle or at the back of the small peloton but he is never far away. It's not uncommon for Justin to have a cigarette on a riding break and he still mixes it with the lads over the long distance riding.
Shaun - 'any which way you can'. Shaun is just determined to make the long distances no matter what. He is often seen gritting his teeth and pumping his legs as hard as he can as the team approach the later part of the day. He is often observed with his jersey zip undone in an attempt to regulate his body temperature as he battles with the humidity and heat. He takes a lot of air in and blows a lot out as he manages to stay in touch with the more seasoned riders.
