We visited a local town, sovacille, to explore a village completely off the tourist route and try a recommended local restaurant. To start we had a plate of the rare local cinta pork products and a massive platter came out!! We immediately thought oops lost in translation the waitress has given us a serve each for €8.50 but no, the entire platter was a single serve starter. We all had pasta to follow, mine fresh fettuccine and porcini mushroom! A little old lady hobbled in for a glass of prosecco and pasta and we got the impression she was a regular. By the time we finished lunch the town had shut down for siesta.
We went back to Siena to quickly use the Internet, and to have another grom gelato. Today's flavours pistachio and coffee! We entered by a different gate and were rewarded with amazing views of the town (today's photo).
After an afternoon of clothes washing and packing, I cooked our last meal - local sausages with roasted veges and tira misu from our landlady, and a good bottle of a super Tuscan chianti! I would definately hire a house in the Tuscan countryside again, it has been fun to get to know the neighbours and patterns of country life and feel less like a tourist. It was great to be able to cook Italian food with local ingredients in italy, something I have always wanted to do!
