Today we did a roadtrip to montalcino, a hillside town that has alot of rustic charm and incredible views, as well as being famous for the brunello wine grown in the area.
We took the long scenic route, dirt roads and all but were rewarded with artists in fields painting the famous landscapes, and plenty of beautiful scenery. As with all hill towns, we parked and entered on foot, this town had alot of interesting shops selling clothes and shoes and homewares, and lots of bottle shops of course. We had lunch at an enotica with an amazing view ( the photo is of the view from our table). We did a 3 wine tasting of the brunello wine - it is a very smooth aromatic cherry red wine that was very drinkable, but the wine is quite expensive to buy. Lunch was bruschetta, followed by meatballs and grapes! Yum! The trip home was via the highway, much quicker but less exciting.
We walked through the countryside to a local restaurant, but found it closed that night for dinner so did a throw together dinner of cheese, olives and pasta! I watched the fireflies dance around once the sun went down.
