I had no rush this morning and another bowl of cereal with coffee passed the time until 10:00am in the room. After checking out I took another walk around the quiet leafy town. I grabbed brunch in Danish cafe that offered a burger & a beer for $20. I took my time with my lamb burger and bottle of lowenbrau as people bustled past. I took a walk to look at the chalets the old mill offer but I was very happy with my hotel room. The extra cost wouldn't have been worth it.
Laura kindly came to collect me just after 12:00 as we headed to Glenelg beach, with a quick drive-by detour past her After Dark shop.
My room wasn't ready when I arrived so we walked the pier and the nearby surroundings. There is plenty to do here including a beach bar that will get explored later on. More importantly though is that there are volleyball courts. With an open training session taking place tomorrow evening. Final I shall get to play Wednesday night volleyball in the heat, in Australia! We walked up to a bar right on the corner of the beach, by the estuary & had a glass of Sangria.
My room here is a one bedroom apartment. Very similar to Rhapsody at surfers just larger and without the view. It does have its own balcony overlooking the town though.
Wasting now time I headed out to sunbathe and have a dip in the Ocean. The waves are much calmer here and you can walk quite a way out. There are plenty of fish to be seen as you go. The only thing slightly concerning me is that Laura was ushered out of the water here recently after the helicopter patrols spotted a shark. There are no helicopter patrols through the week
As I right this section of the blog I'm sat overlooking the ocean, enjoying the peace & quiet. Only disturbed on occasion by the odd plane from the airport. Serving to remind me that it is nearly time to come home. I couldn’t walk past the beach bar without popping in. I grabbed a beer and a sun lounger & lay back listening to the music. Tonight they had a late booking special on for four courses & 8 beers. Shame I hadn’t known about that. Happy hour had now started in the second bar. Laura joined me as I was having my second G&T but due to her parking situation she missed happy hour by 10 seconds.
We had a wander around Glenelg’s main square, deciding up the Moseley’s veranda for dinner. Fish & chips with a glass of Sauvignon from Shaw & Smith overlooking the square worked out very well. Ignoring all rules of swimming we made use of the hotel pool next. Mainly to sit in the jacuzzi. I had done my Jesus trick and turned water into wine. Well at least I put wine in my water bottle for us to take into the pool area. Laura a bathing novice it would seem was unfamiliar with the sauna, plunge pool scenario, & the different jets in a jacuzzi. What has she been doing with her life! She did echo Becky’s sentiments that my feet seem to be in need of medical attention. Perhaps I shall get them looked at when I go home. She headed off after the pool closed & I debated to go out in search of more drinks and entertainment. But with the price I made for my room, I reasoned it would be more value for money to have a glass of wine there, & talk to Becky before finishing the night.
