Queenstown, well to be honest I didn't spend much time here but did join in what it's known for...drinking although I didn't have the time to explore any of it's extreme sports that it's also known for.
I initially arrived in Queenstown 31 May for a quick night, arriving late afternoon checking into Nomads hostel which was a busy place and a place the Kiwi Experience guys stay at. After a stroll around the pretty down and down to the lake and grabbing some food, I changed at the hostel before heading to the pub to meet Amanda, a girl I had briefly met in Nelson, and some other randoms that were in town. Good night and good vibe made that bit funnier by a stag group winding up the stag. Luckily, we called it a night around 12.30am and I was up for Milford Sound around 6am.
I returned back to Queenstown on 2 June for my final two nights, before I'd head back to Christchurch for my flight back to Sydney on the 5th. I booked a different hotel where Nellie and a few people I meant the other night were staying; Sir Cedrics Southern Laughter Hostel. A great vibe and a great bunch of people. Once I had checked in and found a couple of people I knew, it turned in to a boozey night as the entire hostel was heading out for as many excuses as they could find (people leaving the next day etc) not that an excuse is ever needed. It started with some casual drinks over chats before developing into a few drinking games, mainly Ring of Fire. Couple of us headed out for a few drinks before catching up with everyone else for too many more drinks in a few more bars. There's no denying that Queenstown has a great drinking / party vibe and all you can do is get involved. We all had a cracking night. Shame or maybe luckily it was a miserable day the following day which allowed us to mong about to let the hangover ease off without feeling like we should be out doing things. I made a trip to the infamous burger place for brunch; Fergburger. No matter what time you go here there is a huge queue but the food is amazing and totally worth it. That evening I found the Irish couple I had been drinking with for a trip to Dominos for a bargain $5 pizza each to soak up the last of the alcohol before a quick trip to the supermarket followed by a complete crash out in bed, with the bag all packed and ready for the off.
Would be easy to spend a lot of time here but I think the couple of nights were perfect and saved my liver. Well that's it, other than one night in Christchurch back at the BreakFree hotel it's time to head back to Sydney and sadly admit that I need to find a job and recuperate the bank account. A excellent end to the constant travelling and movement, although I feel it may be hard staying in one place for a reasonable amount of time. But let's go see how long that lasts.
