Hey guys - here is the start of things to come, so here goes!
Flew out to Bangkok last week, and it was a BA flight, run by Quantus - a Jumbo 747!! Our itinerary didn't say anything about food on the flight, and as it was over 10 hours, Phil and I decided to ask before we got on. The lady said, of course there would be a late meal, breakfast and snacks, so we were smitten! She then chased after me about 2 minutes later in the airport to let me know that all drinks were free also!! She said I looked like I would like to know! Good girl!! Phil and I felt confident this was a good start to our trips! The flight went over and above our expectation, so after 2 movies on the flight and a few drinks, we were happy and relaxed! Lots of love to Jay and SJ and the rest of the Quantus crew - you do good work!!
Arrived in Bangkok and were buzzing! This is where we potentially made our first mistake, and got in one of the taxis every told us not to! Apparently no one had told Phil about this. Anyway, it turned out to be an absolutely terrifying and hilarious start to our trip. There were no seatbelts (which we later discovered is just tough), and it was horrendous. Most the drivers in Bangkok were fast and crazy - ours was shocking! He was however, a very good, but speedy driver, and he charged us a good price. Also - really bloody sweet!
Met Jay on Khoa San Road, which was just lovely, and checked into our rooms. Went for a beer and some Pad Thai. I then proceeded to be sick!! Good work Hans - glad I didn't let the side down! I didn't even care, I was just so excited by everything! Think the heat might have got to me.
There was a huge monsoon passing over from China, so all was very entertaining!! We spent our first day being tuk tuk'ed around and seeing various monuments. Had a fab day and started to settle in! We then went out and sampled some Samsung, and Phil beat all the Thai ladies at pool! We met some fantastic people (Tansin being one of them, who has asked if I would like to stay with her in Sydney, where she lives! I said yes please!)
We met a fab guy called Earth form the tourist office, and booked our 'bumpy' 11 hour bus journey to Cambodia for Sunday morning. Then in our post Samsung state we went to the Grand Palace. I don't think anyone had enjoyed/struggled through the Grand Palace as much as us, but we literally laughed our way around it, and loved every second! It was so fantastic, and was great becasue you were given information about every section, and the stories behind all the statues. We took great pleasure in the guard in the temple not wearing shoes to work everyday, and how it must make his job much more pleasurable . . . "hunny - i know my job doesn't pay that well, and I know its quite dull, but I do get to go to work every day just in my socks!"- We later discovered that this was only buckle over funny when you are hanging!!
Later that night we met up with Corinne and Tansin and went to a Ping Pong show! OH MY GOD!! I have nothing more to say about that! We did end up in a bar on the Khoa san Road, with me drinking Mojito's and us all singing along to a wicked Thai guy singing Oasis and other various English songs! Very random, but brilliant!
Got up in fantastic spirits at 7am to start out day trip to Cambodia . . . . .
