Packed up and left the Ashanti lodge early on Monday morning and hopped on the Baz Bus to Stellenbosch, only took about 45 mins. Literally had time to dump our bags in the hostel reception before we were bustled off on the wine tour. Wine tour was a great chilled out day visiting 4 of Stellenbosch and Paarls winelands and getting the opportunity to sample some of their wines... hard life hey!
Met some nice people including a london guy over here with his south african girlfriend to visit her parents, 2 lovely Dutch girls who gave us loads of tips on places to go and places to avoid. And a new yorker called Diana who was lovely. She was telling us all about her travels through Namibia and Mozambique which sounded amazing. She invited us out to dinner with her that evening which we accepted.
Wine tasting was nice - even liked a couple of the white wines... get me! Dawn and I treated ourselves to a bottle of red wine we liked and are saving it for one night on the trip. Our tour guide Jaques was a dead ringer for Kierans brother David Becky... it was scary! He was going to come for dinner with us all but he stood us up...how rude! So unfortunately have no photographic evidence of Davids Doppelganger!
Dinner was amazing, thank god we accepted Diana's invite as the place was fantastic! Dawn and I were rather hungary as had missed Dinner the night before and breakfast that day too so after all that wine tasting dinner was defintely needed! The restaurant was on a wine estate called Spiers and the restaurant was called Moyo, it was outside and covered by this giant tent / wigwam type structure, each table was lit with lanterns and each seat had a blanket for when it got chilly. We had booked a tree top table which literally is what it was, a table up in a tree house overlloking the land, it was sooo picturesque. Dinner was a buffet and was deliciousm, i made a point of trying things such as springbok and kudu but me no likey! I did quite like the ostrich meat though! A lady came around and painted little flowers on our heads and they also sung to us and played traditional instruments too - was lovely. Diana had to leave at 8.30 to get back to Cape town, but dawn and i stayed a little longer. We got the shuttle back to Stellenbosch, except the guy who drove us didnt have a clue where our hostel was so was driving around everywhere and asking everyman and his dog for directions. We were just about to give up hope and then he found it! Slept well that night, must have been the full belly!
Tommorow (Tuesday) we head off to Wilderness for 2 days chill out time in the middle of nowhere...cant wait! Speak soon guys xx
P.S Internet wont let me update Stellnebosch pics yet so ill add them ASAP.
