Latest update- we landed early and spent some time in the airport buying new SIM cards since the ones we brought from home didn't work.... We picked up our Hertz rental car ( our favorite minivan) and somehow made our way to old town Zurich. Words we learned so far in Swiss German: ausfahrt- exit
Red- rot
Blue- blau
Yellow- glen
Green- grun
Oh yes- if anyone is wondering our portable hand controls are working just fine but the GPS in Swiss- German was confusing for a while until Ronnie figured out how to change it into English!
After stopping for a quick lunch at a cafe we walked down the quaint streets of the old town exploring. We Had a blast reading the names of the streets like:
Blaufahnenstrasse -blue flag street
We figured out the street/strasse part and thanks to google translate we are having a blast figuring out our way around. We bought the most delicious Swiss ice cream ever with chocolate shavings and Teta finally found a bank after what seems like hours of walking. She asked a local " I want a bank, is there a bank around here?" " of course!" He answers "we are in Switzerland- there are banks everywhere!" "Do you know where I can find one?" "No- I have no idea!"
Next we walked to the new part of Zurich with all the fancy shops to the watch museum. We learned about all the different tools used to tell time from the ancient Egyptian pots that leak water slowly to the rolling watch that takes a week to roll down the hill to weights and cogs. Over time the tools got smaller and more precise but it seems that since the Mayan times people would tell time in 12 hr increments. We are on our way to the Lindt chocolate factory- Yum!
So after taking lots of time editing the amount of chocolate we wanted to buy-tasting every chocolate in the store we settled on a few- next it took us some time to navigate the streets and parking to the kosher supermarket but we knew we were on the right path seeing black hats and coats on the street....mincha is at 7:30- think we'll make it?
So the "fancy " kosher restaurant for dinner was... well...meh...especially for that price. On our way to Lucerne now to hotel Swiss holiday park... Can't wait for our "square of nausea" tour tomorrow of Lucerne and Mt. Pilatis.
