Hanoi- the capital of the North. After arriving at 5am from the worst bus journey in the world I was so excited when the hotel had duvets- the first in over 3 months!! Its funny what you miss! We did a day trip to Halong bay, on the east coast of Vietnam about 3 hours from Hanoi. Halong Bay is a Unesco World Heritage Site and we cruised on a boat for 4 hours around limestone rocks and visited an amazing cave which the sea had washed out and visited a floating village. Today we went to see Ho Chi Minh, who was the an important guy from Vietnam's troubled past! Yep we actually went to see him- his dead body!!! I know I'm blonde and all and have obvioulsy been watching too much of The Simpson's but I thought he would be floating in a glass box filled with formaldahyde!!! For those of you who thought this too- he was just lying an a glass coffin! He has just returned from his hols to Russia where he goes for resoration so we saw him at his peak!! It was possibly the most weird experience we have both had and I really hope I don't have nightmares tonight! Back to Bangkok tomorrow and then heading south for Xmas and New Year so you will all have to check the Thailand section for more updates. x
