When we boarded the plane in Fiji we were told that there was some bad weather over the Pacific and they would have to put more fuel on the plane incase they had to divert. So, more fuel = less baggage and they proceeded to take off 100kg of baggage, so we left Fiji not knowing if we had any luggage or not. On arrival in Rarotonga we discovered we didn't have any luggage and were told it would be arriving the next day at 12pm. The time came and went and we were later told it wouldn't be arriving till the next day- GREAT!! So we were stuck with nothing to wear and nothing to wash with but we had bought a bottle of Malibu and JD in the airport so we decided to take the only option available and get pissed!! We hooked up with Catherine and Will who we had met in Fiji as we were staying at the same place and had a wicked night of cards and alcohol. They both left a little worse for ware but turned up about 30 mins later with our bags. They had walked about 800m uphill with our rucksacks. Just shows what you'll do when you're pissed. Me and Dan were staying in an apartment with shared bathroom and kitchen and the next day Will and Catherine moved in so we spent the next week in our own place with 2 mates, pretty cool. Our time in Rarotonga has been pretty chilled, we have spent most of the time on the beach and inthe apartment. We also rented a scooter as the whole island is only 32km all the way round. I wasn't allowed one of my own this time so Dan acted as my driver for the week. It was great to have some freedom away from the local buses so we could drive wherever and whenever. We had a BBQ one night at our place and even ventured to an Island night where the locals did traditional dances in traditional outfits. Very cool. Me and Catherine drank 2 bottles on wine while the lads drove- ha! Don't think they were very happy about it tho. The Cook Islands has some great snorkelling and Dan even saw an octopus. They have a great array of fish and loads of them. It can be quite scary as some are big!! All the way around the island is a barrier of reef which means that the waters off the beach are protected and crystal clear. So, off to another paradise island tonight. Tahiti here we come and then.... Home sweet home but not for another 10 sleeps!!
