Han & Dan
I expected Phnom Penh to be pretty much like Siem Reap as it was the capital, but there are less hawkers and the restaurants aren't as swanky!!! O well- they still have wine!
We are staying in a guesthouse owned by a man called Elvis! Ha, he even looks a bit like him.
Yesterday we went to the S21 prison which was used by the Khmer Rouge to detain and interrogate prisoners during the civil war. As it was only 20 odd years ago it is still in its original state and there are thousands of photos of people who died and of people being tortured. To say the least it was a bit disturbing and it only ended a few years before I was born which was more shocking!
We then went to the killing fields which was where they dumped all the bodies. They had built a huge stupa (like a temple) and filled it with all the skulls they had found- you will have to look at the photos but it was amazing.
We were walking along a path and there were clothes partly buried in the dirt and then we realized there were bones too- we were actually walking on people!!
On a lighter note we are off to our first beach tomorrow!! Hooray!!
