ChangaiAirport - Massive!!! No problems at airport as very well sign posted and big so not so many people everywhere between each terminal, there is shuttle which runs throughout the terminal. Went through customs very quickly so had a longer wait for baggage to come off plane.
Very humid at 32°C bloody hot especially coming from New Zealand where it was only 14°C when we left Christchurch.
Via Airport Transfer we headed into the city to Carlton Hotel, really hot and tired just wanted to die!! Saw removable barriers on the highway.
Carlton was nice and flash but basic really, very clean as the rest of Singapore.
Headed out this morning big city couldn't believe the humidity so hot that we had walked at least ten minutes and were already sweating.
Singapore is so clean, so green with its rain forest scenery. Everything is also so perfect like in the shops etc. Lot's of statues and figures that Hamish would not let me play tourist and take loads of photos
Went on a massive walk around the city, ended up on a SIA bus tour for an hour an a half because suddenly out of nowhere it was bucketing down with rain, thunder and lightning but still very hot - not use to this coming Southland with rains it is colder usually. Bus took us past Botanical Gardens, Orchard Road, and Chinatown
Looked in a couple of malls (Marina/Suntec) and made our wish's at Fountain of Wealth
Went to Raffles Hotel which was a must do on Tiff's list, when walked in was really disgusted at the prices!! For a Coke it cost you $10.00, glass of wine or beer cost you $14.00. Suppose it was part of the experience as got to eat yummy peanuts and throw the shells on the floor, so made up for it!! As this is the only place in Singapore you can legally litter!!
Went on the Singapore flyer this afternoon after this morning's events. It was awesome saw a lot more of Singapore from 160m above ground than thought existed. Don't think Hamish was too comfortable being so high up. Very impressive city with still heaps of construction going on.
Night Safari another recommendation from tiff, was really good getting a tram ride through jungles of South Africa, Asia, Africa in the dark with some of the nocturnal animals walking around freely, got scared at one point that we were so close that we were going to get attacked. Watched the Animal Show also the Tribal Men which were both great performances, the tour guide was awesome with all his knowledge and background.
Other things about Singapore we noticed: most people spoke English, all brand new cars but didn't see any car sales or petrol stations around, no road side parking or parking meters, digital car park vacancies, countdown of green man on pedestrian crossings.
