After looking like the biggest bogans in Italy during breakfast I attempted to spruce myself up before going out.
Enjoying my al-cheapo fringe trim from KL - I ran out of time before leaving Melbourne and I figured it would be simple enough that I wont end up with a mullet, skullet or flock of seagulls style hair.
I did notice the lack of kitchen staff falling all over themselves to offer us coffee and cooked food at breakfast and then looked around at how dressed up and awake everyone else looked compared to us. Oops! We had gone down early to avoid the tourbus full of yanks that arrived late last night. Gah.
We decided to just randomly walk around Sorrento instead of taking an expensive tour that would involve more time on a bus and lots of crowds. We saw gorgeous coastline from the bus the day before and there is only so much you can fit in when you are only in a place for a day and a half. It was definatetly worth the trip to be here though, even for such a brief time.
I dragged Q into a series of gift shops where he would tell me to buy the first thing i picked up just so we could leave ASAP. Typical male behaviour. He did get me back by buying clothes and shoes which takes him aaaages as he is really fussy. I am saving my shoe budget for Thailand as Italian shoes are expensive (well the ones I like of course are anyway).
There are amazing Easter displays of scenes made of chocolate etc in the windows of lots of shops and there are lots of pet and some stray dogs in Italy. Of course I like to stop and talk to them all ;o)
We saw some beautiful alleys and views and an old castle type thing that was about 20 meters below street level and totally overgrown and abandonned. Looked like something out of a fairy tale.
We ate more pasta (yummy) and finished our epic walk (almost crawled back to the hotel) and fell asleep for a few hours. We got up late and as it was raining we ended up only making it next door again for dinner. I am over pizza-d. (never thought the day would come). This place didn't serve pasta though and Sorrento steak prices are a little above my pay grade.
We did get a lift up the hotel tunnel on the golf cart earlier today. The guy took pity on us as we were carrying lots of shopping (mainly food and alcohol but hey, it was heavy!) He reversed all the way back up the tunnel at a high speed and as i was at the back i got the best view of the approaching reception area. Was fun :o) wanted to carjack it every time after that but it was mainly for old people and luggage! so old bags of all varieties ;o)
Tomorrow we are leaving and I have to drive. It is hard to cross the road here without being mangled by a vespa or a three wheeled mini truck. It's going to be crazy being on the road with them! Hoping my driving experience in rural Greece and in Paris has prepared me well....
