Twas a crazy evening, we were going to have visitors, but we did not know if they were coming that night or the next day. The power had been out for a while, because of the thunder and rain. The house was completely dark, so we used lanterns, flashlights, and candles. My dad had gone to see if they had arrived, but instead he saw fireflies! We didn't know that fireflies lived in Costa Rica! We all watched the fireflies, they would flash their little lights every once and a while. After watching the flashing fireflies we went inside. My parents started making a sign that said "Julie & Brent." There are no addresses here only names of houses. Since we didn't have electricity or internet we wouldn't get the text knowing they were near so we could go outside and flag them down. We went to check if they were here once more, we saw a car coming in the distance, and it ended up being them! When they got in the house, they told us exactly what happened, they said that they popped their tire, and this guy offered to fix it, and that they got on the ferry 30 seconds before it left. It was very dark and rainy.
We showed them all around the house and their studio where they would be staying. Their studio had a seperate ktichen, bathroom, a bed and a closet. Luckily, our electricity came back on long enough to finish making dinner and eat. We ate dinner and then went for an evening swim, next thing we knew we were swimming in darkness. The electricity had gone out again. The next day, the power was out all day, and it was raining on and off. When the rain had stopped we brought Julie and Brent to the beach, at the beach we showed them the big dead boa constrictor Levi and dad had found not to long ago. A boa constrictor is a big snake, the boa constrictor is not venemos, instead of poison the boa constrictor will squeeze its prey, or whoever is trying to threaten it till they are out of air. After we showed them the crazy big snake, Julie, my dad, and Brent went off to go surfing, me and my 3 brothers went to the little river that we usually play in when we were not in the ocean. Suddenly, it started raining what felt like hail, but really wasn't, me and my siblings raced home, the rain hurt a lot. I started using my boogie board as a shield, and my brothers followed. Once we were all dry and in warm clothes, mom made raman. Luckily we had a gas stove, so we could cook food on the stove even when the power was not working.
Julie, Brent, and my dad were still surfing, luckily for them the rain had stopped. They were surfing for awhile. That night the power was still out, and the rain was still pouring, so the only dinner we could make was spaghetti. My parents had to make our dinner in the dark, the whole house was really dark, although you could see where you were going. The naxt day the rain stopped, so we went to Playa Hermosa, I learned to surf at Playa Hermosa. Playa Hermosa had a lot of shells, and the beach was pretty. After we had a fun time boogie boarding and learning to surf at playa Harmosa we went to a natural swimming pool in tide pools. It was super cool! Then the boys dropped us girls off at a restaurant called, The Bakery. Julie, Mom, and I had lunch. I ordered a mint lemonade and it came completely green. We added some sugar packets to sweeten it up a bit, it was very sour.
One of the days Julie and Brent were here, we took them to our favorite Soda, the first Soda we tried a Guanabana. A guanabana is a sweet and sour drink blended with milk and ice and is made from a fruit called guanabana. We all went to the Soda and each got a guanabana. Brent had been craving some good fish, and the soda we were at happened to sell fish, so Brent ordered a red snapper. There was a cool machine at the soda. Since the restaurant has a second floor and has narrow stairs leading up to it. The chef would put your food on a food elevator, then the waiter comes and picks it up off the food elevator and brings it to your table. We watched Brent's fish come up the machine. The fish was fully intact, except it didn't have eyes ,the fish had a few teeth, and almost all of its bones. My mom and Levi tried the fish, I wasn't brave enough, I've never been a fish fan. When we were leaving the soda there was a man telling us that a big hurricane was going to hit Santa Teresa, the problem was that we were in Santa Teresa, we were all frightened. Fortunately, my parents checked the weather, and they said that the hurricane had already past and that we must have experienced more of a tropical storm. We later found out that Hurricaine Nate affected northern Costa Rica and Nicaragua more.
One of the days that Julie and Brent were visiting, we went to Montezuma, the same place I mentioned in my last post. We did not have to rent a car this time because the Cody's already did, they rented a car for the week. When we arrived in Montezuma we took the Cody's to Soda Las Palmeras. We had eaten at this Soda the first time we went to Montezuma and really liked it. At the Soda, Brent got this special iced coffee. My parents tried his coffee, it looked just like a milkshake, and it was huge. When my parents tried it they were like YUM! So my parents got the same coffee and shared it. I tried the coffee, and it was delicious, it tasted like a milkshake! Julie and Brent dropped us off at a little park and then headed to hike the Montezuma Waterfall. On the way to the park, we got to see a group of White Face Capuchin Monkey's eating coconuts and hanging out by a river. They were so cute. There was a baby on one of the monkeys backs.
We had fun at the park. It was a medium sized park, it wasn't big, nor was it small, it had two slides, a little tunne,l a swing set, and a few benches. At the park we discovered that the natural bug spray we used so we wouldn't get mosquito bites, attracted bees. There were a lot of leaf ants at the park to. Leaf ants are a type of ant, kind of like red ants, they could bite, but instead of collecting crumbs, the leaf ant will collect flower petals and leaves. When we were done at the park, we walked around for a while, while we were walking, we came across a man at a table covered in necklaces and other jewelry. Levi and Noah saw a necklace with a blue turtle stone on it, mom and dad said that Levi and Noah could get one, Levi got one with black thread, and Noah got one with brown thread.
After Levi and Noah got their necklaces on, we headed to the beach. It was a very high tide, so we hung out on a little paved area at the entrance to the beach. My brothers and my dad were throwing the mini soccer ball Julie and Brent had brought us, and I was trying to make sure it didn't fall into the ocean. On the second day Julie and Brent were here, they brought us tons of stuff, it was like Christmas in October! My mom had ordered a bunch of stuff on Amazon and Julie had gotten some things at Walmart for us before they left. They brought an entire suitcase just with the stuff mom had ordered. Inside there was a new laptop computer, new markers, four mini balls, new school workbooks, a book for mom, crayons, colored pencils, pumpkin puree, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and much more!
