Bonjour from Nice. We arrived yesterday after a day travelling by train from Lyon.
We had a couple of days in Lyon, which we felt was plenty. This is probably the first place in our travels that we thought we probably wouldn't return in the future to.
Quite picturesque on the Rhone & Saone rivers & our hotel in a lovely location on the river however just didn't live up to the other places we've seen on this trip & our trip 11 yrs ago.
We had an excellent meal the first night then headed off the second night looking for somewhere. Got a bit over looking so sat in this place, got as far as menus & luckily
only H20 when John over heard an English guy complain about the meal he had
received which was not fit for consumption. A quick nod to each other & we were off
via a side entrance. Didn't catch the guy to thank him
Lyon says it's the gastronomic capital of France!
Great basilica on top of the hill with excellent views of Lyon. Either hear haze, smog or both prevented us seeing the alps in the background.
Buildings have the terra-cotta roofs like Italy & coloured walls. Not a patch on Paris.
Nice on the other hand is beautiful. We stayed near here in 2000.
Such character with the old city which we are bordering on, having little alley ways, markets etc.
The ocean looks so calm & is apparently 22deg!
The pebbles look like an obstacle though. Not like our beaches but you can't complain when you have bath water to swim in.
We walked & found the Marina which we left from to Corsica last time.
Wonderful memories!
The wealth is amazing with what's sitting in the marina. John drooled!
We may take a boat around to Monaco on Sunday when Stelle is here.
Sorry to rub it in but the weather has been perfect for us, high 20s
today.
Off to do some more exploring. Siesta over!
