Firstly, yesterday evening. Well that was an interesting one. We ventured into the night marker of the old city which was a bluer if colour, smells and noises. After some good, we realised there was a lady boy cabaret near by. Decide ding that you couldn't go to thailand and not see a show, we headed in. It was funny, don't get me wrong, but for perhaps the wrong reasons. Due to ill fitting outfits various body parts were frequently on show and outfits falling apart. As I said though, it was a laugh and I can now say I've seen one.
Today though, was elephant day!!! A day I had much been anticipating. It was fantastic!! After a long drive into the mountains and forest we arrive to a sanctuary where these magnificent creatures were roaming free and we could interact with them. We spent the morning learning about the elephants and how to care for then, a long with taking them for a bath in the river. This was followed by a trek to a waterfall.... I have to say, although one of the most amazing experiences of my life so far... Initially it was also one of the scariest as I perched precariously on the neck of the elephant fearing that I would plumet to the ground. Soon enough enjoyment took over and the fear disappeared!
After our return to the hostel I had a much needed face time with the family (still a little homesick) and then an even more needed shower! Elephant trekking is dirty work!
We opted for an early night as we had to be up relatively early to head to the airport, so after we packed up our things we hit the hay :)
